Properly translated from the original Hebrew, the phrase is: You shall not murder. Look at a Jewish version of the Ten Commandments: http://www.hebrew4christians.com/Scripture/Torah/Ten_Cmds/ten_cmds.html
The commandment "You shall not kill" forbids direct and intentional killing as gravely sinful. The murderer and those who cooperate voluntarily in murder commit a sin that cries out to heaven for vengeance. (Gen 4:10)
Killing in self defense, a just war, and lawful capital punishment are not considered murder.
However many Christians including Catholics believe most modern governments no longer need to use capital punishment to protect society from criminals.
With love in Christ.

The killing in the ten commandments mean the illegitimate removal of life. It is similar to murder or assasination.
If you are defending yourself and you kill the person during the process, then you are not guilty.
“If a man practices homosexuality, having sex with another man as with a woman, both men have committed a detestable act. They must both be put to death, for they are guilty of a capital offense.
In this case, God offers the right to the Isrealites to execute anyone who does a thing for it is against His purpose. His purpose is that a man and a woman should be the ones to have sex when married; not man and man or woman and woman. This was also because God was preparing for the Messiah to come and redeem those who will believe in Him, through the Jews. So He wanted the Jews to be clean.
But Christ came and now He wanted people to change and have a second chance. That is why we don't see people stoning homosexuals to death ( safe the Islamic nations. Islam is not from God)
But remeber; sin is awful in God's eyes.

Exodus 20:13 in the ancient Aramaic bible says, "thou shall not murder." Some say there is a difference in Murder and Killing. People murder animals as well. This is another contradiction to this commandment.
Stoning back then was considered the punishment for law violators. I suppose they did not consider it murder. Jesus would not stone someone for violating the law. Taking a life to me is wrong, but some people who commit crimes against children for example, Jesus said that it would be better that they be thrown into the sea and with a mill stone around their neck. I believe in Capital punishment but only by lethal injection, not stoning. People tend to be as cruel as the convicted. Homosexuality was considered a crime then and an abomination to God. So this would have been the punishment. The belief is that God puts people in authority to rule over the people and make judgment on earth for God. King Solomon was a Judge and showed his fairness if you read about the baby and two mothers story.
This is a very good point you made and you will find other contradictions in the bible. It is like going to the library and two books are bad and wrong. This does not make all the books in the library wrong. Same with the bible, maybe not everything is as correct as some would have you believe. But don't discount it all for the few discrepancies.

In Mark, Chapter 10, when Jesus was tested about divorce, this would be the same with murder. These precept was written because of the hardness of your heart. Is the commandment of God lesser because of the practices(such as homosexuality or adultery) of many? He was also asked what commandments to follow. It was in this order: Love God, your neighbor as yourself, and so on. Do not burden yourself with such things as these will all come to pass.

The commandment you quoted means you must not commit murder.
The punishment for practicing homosexuality in OT times was death, usually by stoning. This was also the punishment for a child who continually rebelled against his parents.

God orders that, as justice he told moses, but not for another man to judge and decide, its God that decides the rules, after Jesus died for us in the cross, now there is no need for animal sacrifice etc, we have a chance once again to repent, but if ppl keep on doing these abominations when God comes he'll judge then and the penalty will be death.

the ten commandments meant premeditated thought out murder against someone. As homosexuality is concerned it would be just like us putting a needle in the arm of a criminal. Thats what they are talking about back then is a judge putting them to death like a criminal that is guilty

that is some what difficult to answer but i believe that it means what it says....
God was speaking to Moses as the Leader of the ones comeing out of Egypt....giving him the commands and decrees...
the people that he was chosen to rescue and lead were to be Gods people,,, all of them
in those days there was a lot of this practice going on if you read about sodom and gomorrah
and God wanted to make that a strong way for the people, to make very very strong laws in my opinion to notice the complete difference the complete difference between Gods people and those ones that chose not be of Gods people and wanted to do there own thing.... to completely distinguish who is GODS people, and with the Laws and Decrees this is forming a strict and solid structure ,,,
so there arn't any weeds, or bad fruit in them that would eventually lead others away or destroy the others .. ,, but this is my opinion
to fear God and live according to his way
and back then I am assuming that was a way of punishment to his law, now being we live in this world nowdays these laws have been curved and changed according to fit our society
today I believe that tho still alive the people who commit that sin are dead to God until they choose to repent..
this is totally my opinion sooo...
but with strong points in the bible,, all are born sinners and those who repent and accept Christ and choose to follow and live ...have the right to Life and God
I am sure it is still detestable to God for that act to be commited,
and so are all other acts the ones he spoke
though the punishment for these sins ,,,are different in our society
now Jesus came in the New Testement to give people a chance of redemption, and to see that He Died for all, andpeople would not go through that death, of there sin, that Jesus Died and all who believe the word is true have that chance to follow again, with that offering salvation ....and turn from there sin to follow the ways that even Jesus taught In the New Testement.....its almost like an everlasting chance of redemption but only if you choose it,,, and if not theres not another way to put it but
Hell
1 John 2
1My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defense—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for[a] the sins of the whole world.
3We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. 4The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5But if anyone obeys his word, God's love[b] is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: 6Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.
does that make sence ???

God wrote the laws, He said "do not murder", but He also gave many laws that called for the death penalty if broken. He chose the Jews to be His people, and because of that He wanted to keep them as a pure example to the world, therefore ridding any impurity in a seemingly extreme way.
