I used to go to church when I was a new convert, it was a period that I learned the scriptures and grew in understanding of God.

Church was like college to me, After a while it's time to move on and take what you've learned into the world. I can't bring myself to enter these churches today, either it seems like a funeral or a disco with 2 hour lectures of the pastor talking about the Bible. That's all preaching is these days, Just talking about the Bible and how to get get rich. What ever happended to learning scripture?

I must admit, like college I miss the old days but going back would only be reliving the past.

Whats your story?

I started out Lutheran, then Episcopalian til I was 18-I was an acolyte at the Episcopal church, but only attended til I turned 18-after that, I felt my parents couldn't make me go-
then I married a man who's mother was a Pentecostal Preacher,,,,,wow-talk about going from calm and quiet to calamity, that was scary,,,I jumped and about wet myself when people where jumping up out of their seats yelling Hallelujah, -then-
I devoted my whole life to church, my marriage needed fixing and I didn't know where to turn,,,,
my marriage failed anyhow,,,
and for that, now I am eternally grateful-
but I didn't feel things turned out right there for a while, I got mad and quit going-haven't been to church but maybe 2-3 times since then-going on7-8 years now,,,,,,,

I have also kinda shifted my interests-
I believe in a higher power-
and I have a different way of thinking-
but I am not a bad person-
nor am I evil-
I just don't' think that i have to go to church to pray or
worship or confess my sins when The Almighty-being whoever that may be-I can do it from home-
they are all seeing and all knowing-
why must I go to church to do that-I can do it at home.....

Ever Sunday and Wednesday night.I love Church.I love the word of God.I learn new each time I go.
You need to find a good church and get back in.If you do not attend church you are sinning against the Word of God.The Word said forsake not the assembly of yourself together and the so much the more as you see the day approaching.
I have gone to church for 30 years.Praying you find a good church. It will not get better if you stay home.
Jesus help set the church in order,to bless the body .You are stealing some ones blessing.

i enjoyed church when i was a kid, but when i started understanding i found myself listening and witnessing a lot of hypocrisy, then i learned from my own bible that i should not go to church just to look at other ppl and judge them but to praise GOD, nowadays i pretty much enjoy church and i find myself being happy and i really can see that there are some ppl same as me that go or want to go to church from the bottom of their hearts. As long as u Do ur part don't worry about the others getting rich from church offerings or anything else, God will deal with them not u.(oh and by the way i don't mean that u shouldnt help others on the contrary spread the Gospel)

I used to go to churches were them just jumped up and down, sing, the pastor reads a half of 2 or 3 verses then yells for 1 1/2 hours. When I left there I was not learned. They speak of grace, faith, and prosperity, but nothing to get you eternal life.

But when i got to where i am now i see why the pastors do that. Isaiah 30:9 says "that this is a rebellious people, lying children that will not hear the law of the Lord: Which say to seers, see not, and prophets,Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceit".

I started 6 years ago and have not quit. I took a month off for each of my babies but otherwise I can feel the separation from God when I don't go and I even feel bad if I go to my kids' baseball game instead of Wed. church. I don't want God to feel like am choosing baseball over Him. My daughter pouts if we don't go. It isn't a social thing for me, it's spiritual. The Bible instructs us to assemble together and to pay our tithes to the storehouse and seek advise from the wise. My pastor teaches and preaches Jesus, not money. He teaches compassion for the lost souls and that we must be a beacon in this town. We must love one another. My pastor is Awesome and church isn't about what you can "get out of it". Its about guidance and we will forever need guidance until we meet up with him! We must also reach out and spread the gospel. Try to find a different kind of church, research it. Our life is not ours and we must be the hands and feet of Jesus!!
God Bless.

I go every week. To me its a relationship on a community scale. If you do not like a particular preacher go to another but its easy to be critical.
Like any relationship you have to ask, what am I doing to add to this relationship.
As a priest I was very open to people coming up and saying; I would like to start something new in this parish. If they were prepared to organize it and fit in with the other activities, I gave them the go ahead. It didn't always work out and sometimes they just wanted somebody else to do the work.

Isn't it the same in any relationship?

I still go, but at my church from 9-10 is Bible study, then 10:15 to 11:15 is worship, which means prayer, singing, and a sermon. I learn something new everyweek, and its pretty sweet when I know what people are talking about when they name the scripture (before reading it).
