Do some research on the house. See if anyone was killed in it, or what. If there is an evil spirit in it, you can try to get rid of it, but sometimes that doesn't work. Sometimes they stay put and they can be quite a pest. The best thing would be to do research and see if you could stay the night in the house first, to see if you get any bad vibes.

Even if you bought a brand new house, something could have left negative energy in the ground beneath it. The age doesn't matter either...the grounds are eternal. Something, someone from some time must have left a spiritual impression. Either hire a reputable psychic to do a walk through with you before the purchase or, if you really like the house, buy it and work on casting out the negative spirits later, should they be found to reside there. Also remember, too...there is a law in most states that a realtor/seller MUST tell you about any suspicious activity that has been reported such as a haunting. If they know about it and its a law in your state and they dont tell you, you could sue.

There are no gauerentees when it comes to real eatate. The agent does not have to disclose this information. Go to the registrar of deeds and see how many times the house was sold in 5 years. Cross reference the former owners and the obituaries to see if there were any recent deaths. Chances are very high that people will not live in a haunted house for several years, they would sell quickly.

Have a priest come in a do an exorcism before you move in. That should clear out anything in the house.
Or, you could put a stipulation in the buying clause that you want to be able to live in the house for one month to make sure that the house is "clean" before you close on the house. If it is haunted you should know within a month.

Prevent? Why would u want to prevent buying a haunted house? They keep the burglars and serial killers away.

If you are a christian, nothing in the supernatural world can hurt you.
Demons tremble at the very spoken name of Jesus Christ.
Ghosts can't hurt you, they make you hurt yourself.
There is no guarantee if a house of any age or style will not be attacked by evil.

At your old house, buy a statue of St Joseph and bury him facing the house. It's supposed to guard you and your home, and any new homes.

wow interesting question. I would say if you feel any negative energy when you check out the house don't buy it. If you feel a positive energy take it.
