I'm in college and have troubles falling asleep. I've got an 8 am class everyday. I can't sleep without tylenol pm (equate brand, but just as good.) when i take it i'm droggy in the morning. i literally laid down at 11 pm and won't fall asleep until 1:30-2:30 am without the medicine. How do i fix this. the nurses at the health center suggested i do a sleep schedule and gave me a pamphlet. it didn't work. what can i do? i dont want to take the tylenol cuz it's bad on the liver.

i am in the same boat i will lay down for hours and can't sleep..i talked to my dr. and they told me to go to wal-mart and get melatonin..it is an over the counter sleep aid...it is less than $4 and it is suppose to be non addictive...just take it about 2-3 hours before bedtime and it seems to work pretty good...i try to get in bed early bc i have a 2 year old so i normally take it about 7:45 pm after dinner and i am normally asleep by 10...try this and good luck!

Hello there,

Do you exercise?

Try exercise because it moves your physical body which is otherwise sedentary most of the time (I presume?)

When you're sedantary, as bedtime approaches, your physical body isn't exhausted and your mind is buzzing with all kinds of thoughts (in your case, you would be bothered by the fact of the 8 am class!), so you can't fall asleep easily.

You'll find that exercise, even in the form of light walking for say 20-30 minutes, 3-4 times per week, promote easier and deeper sleep for you.

To help you go to sleep even easier, try take 2 tablets of calcium and magnesium, 1 hour before bedtime. These 2 have calming effect on your nervous system.

You are in collage and your worried about Tylenol effect on your liver!? LOL
OK, sleeping poorly is a Hugh problem in all age groups.
I suggest NOT napping. It'll be hard not too when your that tied so try working out at the gym or other exercise when your sleepy. It works.
Eat properly, I mean no fast foods.
Only High proteins and fruit/veggies.
When your laying in bed don't think of anything from your day, only think of relaxing your mussels.
One at a time from bottom up, let them loosen and relax all the way up even your jaw!
It should work just give it a try.

I have a problem somewhat like yours I don't sleep much either. I take the tylenol pm around 6 pm and fall asleep around 11 pm. I am sorry I can't help you fix your problem but taking it earlier in the evening helps me to sleep through the night and wake up early feeling pretty good.

Tell the nurses why it didn't work and see what they say. Ask for an alternative to Tylenol. See if your room has good enough air. Too much dust? Do you replace the sheets and things?
