I'm not talking about instead of dry or wet catfood, more of a treat thing.

I have one that LOVES carrot salad from the deli.
Another one drives me crazy begging for the lettuce off my hamburger (no thanks to meat) and will eat it all of it if I give it to her!

I had a big fluffy kitty who would steal the bunch of fresh spinach out of the grocery bag when my back was turned. I didn't even get a chance to put it away! He loved lettuce and green beans, too. Whenever I made a salad, I made sure to give him a piece of lettuce. The vet said the veggies were good for him as a treat, but not as a major food. Mr. Fluffy was definitely special. My other cat, Callie likes apples and pears. We give her the core and she licks it until it's all gone (except the seeds). Never give them anything with onions in it though.

Occasional fruits or veggies are ok, unless the specific plant is toxic to cats. Google "plants toxic to cats" and check on a few hits to make sure before you feed any plant. Not all lists have the same information, though, which is why it's good to consult more than one list.

Palor - Onions are toxic to cats and should be avoided like the plague. They contain a compound which kills red blood cells, and will result in anemia. Seriously anemic animals can die.

It won't hurt for your cat to indulge in her love for veggies since it's only for treats and not her actual diet.

My 17 year old loves turnip greens so much that he'll steal them right off of our plates. When we have them, we just go ahead and cut up some in his own plate so we can eat in peace.

Note to other poster - cats should never eat onions. They are toxic to cats and dogs.

Many cats enjoy veggies and FRUIT occasionally. My sister trained her cat to do tricks using PEAS as a reward. Many cats LOVE melon. If your cat shows an interest in veggies or fruit there's no harm in giving them some.

But watch them, if something gives them diarrhea, don't give it to them again.

However, cats can NOT be vegetarian. They NEED meat.

Have fun giving your cats their veggies!

I had a cat who loved to eat cooked onions. However they derive very little from vegetables and need a proper diet.
