Hispanic, for certain, and I assume via Mexico into early California. Have you traced your direct family, and perhaps found a link to Dominguez Hills? I grew up not far from there. They were an early Los Angeles area family.

I would say from Domingo...a long time ago the Spanish used patronymics...Dominguez would have meant son of Domingo.

Same with Rodriguez--son of Rodrigo.
