Of course.

Some of my friends and family are atheists. We have some very interesting conversations.

It would be unchristian not to love them, pray for them, and show them how a Christian lives his or her life.

With love in Christ.

Would you also label the Methodist, Presbyterian, other Protestant churches not Christian simply because the word Christian is not attached to the name of their Church?

Roman Catholicism is a Christian denomination. The name "Catholic Church" originated in 107 AD when Ignatius of Antioch used the phrase to describe Jesus' "Church.

Catholics adhere to the teachings of Jesus Christ who founded this Church. Acts 11,26 defines Christian an "adherent" of Christ. The word Catholic simply means the larger or universal church. The early church fathers were the first to use it. For example the epistles of James, Peter, John and Jude are referred to as the Catholic Epistles. So when we say the Catholic Church, we mean the universal Christian Church.

We have some business associates who are atheist. We get along well because we do not discuss our religious beliefs.
Peace and every blessing!

Well i think when I embark in new relationships, that very context or narrative of their life sets the pace for our relationship. For instance, if I meet someone at work that I dont know, thats usually something I try to get out in the open is the topic of religion to feel out where they are at with God or if they believe in him at all. Then I go from there.

I think its best that we put limits and distance between our unbelieving friends, because after all, they are going to serve as a poor example and not upift us like having believers as friends can. But its also important to develop those contacts so we can have influence other peoples lives and share the Gospel with them. In all my time, nobody likes hearing the Gospel from someone they dont know. Its always better heard from a friend or an invite to church or a Bible given; something of that nature.

Yes, I would befriend the atheist. It may very well be through such a friendship the atheist becomes a believer in Christ.

Unless religion was brought up in conversation by the friend, I would leave it alone, verbally.

I would choose to "preach" through living the Catholic Faith.

A disbelief in God does not necessarily mean someone is an evil person. You can be friends with this person and make it an opportunity to exemplify the qualities of a believer. Be a good friend and a good example.

and now, a teaching moment: Catholics are Christians. And why wouldn't I befriend someone who didn't believe in God? It's not up to me to judge other people.

Yes because any good christian or catholic would befriend them regardless. A friendship should be based on other things EXCEPT religion.

Yes, I have a few atheist friends. Even though one always mocks me and my beliefs, I still show her love, and pray for her. You should do the same.

you should remain friends with your friends regardless of their religious beliefs....Their beliefs are their own, and you shouldn't be one to judge them on it...nor should anyone else.. Ask yourself why you are friends, if "because we both believe in the same God" is not your answer, then stay friends with the person...
