I have a 7 year old male child that went to the bathroom and I found blood in his stool. I have asked him if he feels ok and he says he is felling fine. Nothing seems to be wrong with him and all was normal throughout the day. Should I be concerned? He says this is the first time he has ever seen this. I have notified the pediatrition to call me so I can ask him.

It seemed to be just a small amount but fresh and bright red. Around his anus it is red so we put some desitin around the outside. He says it didn't hurt coming out and he doesn't think he scratched himself.

Blood in the stool is most commonly caused by a heavy bowel movement that may have caused an abrasion on the child's anus. I'd have your doctor confirm this, because, if that is not the case, it could be many more things... like acute bacterial or viral gastroenteritis and much more.
