What special measures are required (if any) to keep a blood sample fresh (regular small sample taken by your GP) , while in transportation/delivery for 2to5days?

The vial they collect it in has preservatives in it. Also, some tests require that the blood be refrigerated.

The GP has special phials with certain liquids in them to keep the samples fresh, depending on what the precise blood test is for, depends on what phial is required. On one occasion my blood had to be sent to the City a trip of two hours, so I had to donate at 8am, the sample went by motorcycle courier arrived at noon and was processed at 1pm. Sometimes they really want a fresh sample.
