I remember talking about this in class...it's anywhere from 22-30 years because that is the time when adults wed and then have children, which begins a new "generation". Although, some cases may vary, I am just about certain that from every 24-30 years is a generation.
Although, a generation does not apply to every individual. If your best friend just had a baby, then that baby has started a new generation for your best friend's family, but not for you. Your new generation will not start until you decide to have a child.
So to answer your question, there is a "statistical" number to how long a generation is (22-30 years), but it just depends on the individual.

Usually considered 20 years, since it's supposed that people have married and started a new generation within that time span.

Webster's says, "about thirty years". I'd go with Webster's, unless you want to go with my opinion.
