The guidelines layed out in the OT were pretty much overridden when Jesus came to Earth. He provided us with new basis for living. So the OT is like the "Articles of Confederation" of America (recall your History). The NT is like the US Constitution.

i have never known a Christian to reject anything in the old testament
you can never generalize about Christians anyway because there are many types of Christians who have different agendas but as a general rule:
the OT is used as a reference guide to depict the prophecies of the coming of Jesus for the most part and to study God's works as a reverance to HIM
When Jesus came, he did not denounce the old laws (ALL of them) but instead gave the people a new law - more important than the past ones-the NT is not a historical account of Jesus but a Life instruction book written by other people based on personal accounts
Next, I can't see where the OT sounds like the Quran- nope! sorry! Quran was written much later
next, the dude that said that the OT is not debated is Wrong! Jews are constantly debating the OT, sorry about that one too.
lastly, I don't think it is fair to make assumption that people that anyone is ashamed of the Lord of Abraham... that's just not true

The thing I don't understand about Christians is their use of the Law.
The claim that the Law was not abolished. But that instead it is, and always was supposed to be, used to show sin. Yet, when they speak of the Law they are merely speaking of the Ten Commandments. They are missing 603 mitzvot in there somewhere.
Honestly, Christians need the Old Testament because they need proofs to their faith. If they could not link Jesus to the prophecies of the Old Testament (where these prophecies are even prophecies is another story) then they would have no basis for their faith. They could not then claim that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah.
So the cling to the Old Testament for their proofs. But that is all. Ask a Christian about the Old Testament and I bet you they will say that the Old Testament doesn't matter because it was replaced by the New.
And so it goes.

As I read all the answers that were already give the words that keep running through my head are "Anyone who comes to change the word of G-d shall be identified as a false prophet" (I know, that's not an exact quote, but it's to the same effect)
And that's what Christianity has done, hasn't it? The NT has overridden the OT. The commands that G-d originally told us to obey have been changed and ignored. Why? Because they’re unnecessary in salvation? I thought the whole point of religion was not just not save yourself from imminent punishment, but to follow and relate to a higher power. And I feel like we’ve morphed it into something that it was never intended to be. For many people, they want to be saved. Just so they know that they will go to heaven. And actions and words don’t matter. Following and obeying doesn’t matter. Because regardless, you’re saved. Isn’t that what we’re preaching?
Anyway, good question. Very… provocative.

We believe in the Old Testament because much of it points to one person and that is Christ. Although we don't or can't follow all the old testament we still are under some of it. We are no longer under the sacrificing of lambs for two reasons. One because Jesus is the Lamb, and second the temple no longer exists like in the old testament days. We don't have to follow the dietary laws because they signified "sin" . When God said "You must not eat this or that" it wasn't the food necessarily that was bad but rather it was what God was trying to teach the Israelites. Now it is the bad spiritual food that we must not eat of. It's the stuff that people sometimes feed themselves that are opposite of God's character. Some do not follow the tithe simply because it is not mentioned in the New Testament. My belief is that we follow the commandments that Jesus and the apostles spoke about in the New Testament. Everyone is still under the moral laws like murder, lying, obeying your parents etc. These are commands that God required in the Old Testament and is still valid for new testament believers. Jesus is the fulfullment of the law. This means that everything the law said was for a purpose. It pointed us to the person who would be the fullfillment of things concerningChrist. Personally, I don't think it's wrong for people who still choose to follow the dietary laws, the ceremonial laws like circumcision, the sabbath. Just as long as they trust Jesus and live for him and make Him Lord of their lives. I hope this helps.

I don't know about the Quran, but they do seem to ignore everything Jesus said. He said Blessed Are The Peacemakers, and they love Mr. Bush's war. Jesus threw money changers out of the temple, he said care for the poor, but they support Mr. Bush's tax breaks for billionaires while letting our injured soldiers lie in filth. They are hypocrites. They support the Old Testament because it is so full of vengeance and cruelty, while most Jews regard the OT only as an historic curiosity.

The Old Testament is important to us, because it shows us the true nature of God. When we have an understanding of His love and mercy, it helps us to trust more in Him. It isn't that Christians reject the Old Testament. The Jewish rules contained in it are no longer valid. Those rules were God's way to eternal life with him then; but now Jesus has stood in our place and taken our punishment, and we no longer have to live a perfect life by the Law in order to go to Heaven. The New Testament tells us this. Both Testaments are extremely important.

it's not that they are ashamed of it - it's that they believe it has been superseded by the NT. The OT was mostly the oral history and laws of the Jewish people. Jesus preached a new covenant - a new set of laws - that took precedence over the old laws. those new laws are described in the NT, and that is why most Christians focus on the NT.

YAhood,
You evidentally don't read much. The Old Law was hung on the cross at Calvary. It is now, "For our learning". The quran was written after the New Testament and was fashioned after our Old Testament. The New Testament tells us how to become Christians, why to do so, and how to live a Christian Life. GOD expects HIS CHILDREN to read, study, and obey HIM. Have a wonderful LORD's DAY.
Thanks,
Eds

One reason: THEY DO NOT UNDERSTAND IT.
why? Beacuse the New Testament only covers three years of Jesus' life, and twelve guys are telling stories their own way, so there are arguments.
Cannot argue the Old Testament.
