Say, someone called the police to report some suspicious behavior. The cops come to check it out, but it's nothing. Will the caller get fined??

I know you'll get fined if you call 911 and the ambulance comes and there's no real emergency...

If you honestly thought you saw a crime or a suspecious activity, you will NOT get fined or punished, even if what you saw was nothing at all.

If you have a history of calling police and every time, it turns out to be nothing, then you may/will have a problem.

If you intentionally make false calls, then you WILL be punished.

Even calling 911 for ambulance, if you HONESTLY thought someone's life is in danger, you will not be fined. They rather show up to find out what looked like an emergency wasn't, rather than not been called and have someone die.

Just call the departments non emergency line. It will connect you to the same place as 911, just tell the dispatcher what the problem is and they will send out an officer to check it out. Don't hesitate to call, and no you will not get fined.

i dont know. you should call ur local police. That way its not an emergency. Like whatever city youre in, they should have local police and that's where you call if its not an emergency. You wont get fined that way, but they take a little longer.

No - you will not be fined (in the US)
A couple times I had to call the police and had the issue resolved before they showed up and never did they charge me.

No, they will not fine you, as long as you call them for a good reason. They are there for you and if you are suspicious of something, then call them.

If you HONESTLY believe that there is suspicious or criminal activity. NO! you will not be fined.

However if you with intent, falsely report an incident. You can do jail time and be fined.

Just don't call the pigs unless it's a real emergency.

Don't be a schmuck like that dude who called 911 to order a pizza.

I doubt it as long as it isn't a prank. I once called the cops on a party at midnight simply for the fact that they were playing disco music and should have better taste in music.

No, because suspicious people leave and don't hang out forever. Just because people weren't there when the police arrived doesn't mean they weren't there when you called.

Not usually if you call the nonemergency number, describe exactly what you have seen or heard and are worried about, and let them use their own discretion about whether they need to come check it out.
