The Catholics have a lengthy process of declaring people saints. But a person who is set apart for use by God is a saint and it is not a title that has to be bestowed upon you by people on earth. You may know many saints, and they may or may not be Catholic.

According to the Catholic church, and some other churches, a saint is someone known to have made it to Heaven. In the Catholic church, a person is declared a saint by a process called canonization, which concludes with the Pope officially declaring the person a saint.

In some other churches, the word saint is used in its New Testament sense to mean a person who is striving to follow Jesus. Under that definition, a person becomes a saint as soon as he begins striving to follow Jesus.

a Saint is a person who is recognized as having attained a high level of holiness.

1st step in this process is the investigation of that saint's life

sent to the Congregation for the Causes of Saints in Rome. If they approve it, then the person may be beatified and given title of "Blessed."...miracles or instances of intercession that happened after the individual died

Finally, when all of this is done the pope canonizes the saint.

A saint is merely someone who has accepted Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior. That's what makes a person a saint. It has absolutely nothing to do with being extraordinary or perfect.

everybody is a sinner. each sinner who's saved - it somewhat is, everybody who's in heaven - is a saint. The Church formally canonizes, or acknowledges, particular saints with the aid of exemplary holiness of their lives on earth. however the act of canonization does not "make" them a saint. It in basic terms acknowledges that they are saints. there are hundreds of canonized saints, yet there are easily many tens of millions of saints in heaven.

If I may be so bold as to use the bible as a reference(i know it's not an acceptable practice on R&S), it says all believers in Jesus Christ are Saints.

Hi Mark,
. According to the scriptures, once we become a Christian we are "saints". GOD has it written in HIS HOLY BIBLE and that makes it so. The Catholics think that they have to VOTE on a person AFTER he/she has died to become a saint. Have a great LORD's DAY!
Thanks,
Eds, Christian

I would guess a Saint is a person who has devoted a good amount of time to their religion. Who makes them that? The Roman Catholic Church, I believe.
