I think when they asked can they, they prob'ly heard a lot about asians are family-oriented race, or should i say group-oriented race. However, that's from a really traditional perspective. If you met an asian guy and he is not that traditional or stereotyical asian thinking, then you may have a chance.
In a lot of asian countries, guys still take family's opinions as to the matter of dating or getting married to a girl. whereas there are the new generation who might be more open-minded and more individualistic thinking and they'd go for what they want more than what their parents suggested.
there are goods and bads in this issue. in traditional asian society, guys and girls respect their parents and think that marriage is something involved with two families, not just two individuals.
anyhow, i think if you find an asian guy who's raised in a different culture or environment other than in asia, then they might not be too old-fashioned. it all depends, like the family factor is in a big proportion.

Sure why not. I think most Mexicans have some asian DNA from the indian bloodline anyways.
