Believing in God is for most people something that's part
of their life because it was taught to them by their parents.
The only thing that would perhaps be "stupid", would be to
accept that belief uncritically as an adult. As an adult we
have logic, reasoning skills, etc. We should use those skills
to analyze all evidence for and against, and then come to
a conclusion based on facts, -- not what we've been told to
be true as a child. Not going through that process for
yourself would be considered by most people, "stupid".
If you have gone through that process, and you still believe
in God, then when people ask you why you believe, you
should have many well reasoned answers for them that
stand up to any arguments that they might present. If your
answers do not stand up to the arguments, then perhaps
you should rethink your conclusions.

"Why does believing in God automatically make me stupid, ignorant, and such?"
I'm an agnostic, and I don't automatically assume that theists are stupid. If you have self-confidence, you wouldn't let other people's opinions bother you.
"And further more, why are atheists answering questions in the R/S section if most don't believe that they have a religion in the first place?"
Because atheists, agnostics, and free-thinkers also have an interest in religion and spirituality, too. Also, Yahoo doesn't have any sort of religious test to determine eligibility to post to the R/S section.

It doesn't
And as to why I answer questions in R&S:
1/ Religion effects me how ever much I try to stop it, the establishment is all Christian.
There is the second part - 'Spirituality' and that I have buckets of. You do not need a god to be spiritual. To be in contact wih the deep inner self; the loving nature; the humanity of being.

Beliving in God doesn't make you stupid. What athiests hate is when religious people act like they are right simply based on the fact they are basing their ideas on religion, which athiests disagree with. As for answering in this section, it's interesting to see other people's views.

"Why does believing in God automatically make me stupid, ignorant, and such? "
It's for the same reason that believing in santa claus when you're 35 makes you stupid and despicable.
"And further more, why are atheists answering questions in the R/S section if most don't believe that they have a religion in the first place?"
The questions are *about* religion; actually having a religion isn't a requirement to answer them.

Believing in God makes you smart.
Atheists should be in this section because Atheism is a religion that requires more faith to believe in than the Bible.
Atheism is completely indefensible, both mathematically and logically. You cannot prove an absolute negative.

The Bible says were to be a peculiar people, in the world not of it.
They see us not living like them and they think were stupid because we dont follow their corrupt beliefs and ideals.
But thats a small minority, most people with sense are actually in the world sharing the gospel, rather than arguing like Barbara on this forum.

Believing in God doesn't automatically make you stupid.
With that said, atheists have as much right to be here as you do, since this is not a private club for only those who have religious beliefs.

If you exist as a believer you are an abomination before their altar of disbelief. Professing our belief is one of their cardinal sins and must not be tolerated, even if we do not speak to them. They will seek us out and get if front of us and tell us to stop shoving our beliefs down their throats. I personally do not care to ever speak with them. For all of their pompous rhetoric they are the most proselytizing people I have ever heard.
