Sin is anything that separates you from God. It's missing the target; getting off track with the Lord.

Christians want to have a loving relationship with God. Sin is anything we do or fail to do that interferes with that relationship. Disobedience, anything that is unkind, untrue, impatient, prideful, covetous . . .etc.

Basically, selfishness and egotistical behavior is sinful. As for "whose eyes," it's always the eyes of God.

Addendum: (By the way, the person who said the English translation using the word "sin" doesn't do the Greek word justice is a little off the mark. The word is an old English archery term meaning the distance from the center of the bullseye to the point where an arrow struck.")

The greek word that we use sin for actually means "To miss the target" so if you were doing archery and you shot the arrow and it missed the target that is what the word is used for. Unfortunately the English word sin doesn't do the actual meaning any justice, which is why we think have the general idea that sin is a bad thing when it isn't, it's just missing the target

Personally, I think a sin is any action that causes unnecessary pain and suffering for yourself and others. Even Jesus said that it all boils down to the Golden Rule (do unto others).

However, organized religion has added a whole bunch of so-called sins that don't violate the Golden Rule. Things like eating meat on Fridays, masturbation, drinking, dancing, and other behaviors are considered sins by blue-nosers, even though nobody is hurt.

If you go through life trying to avoid hurting anybody who isn't bothering you, you're a moral person, IMO...

Sin is "falling short of the mark", the mark being God's will. Anytime we choose to abandon God's will for our lives and go our own way, do our own thing, so to speak, we are contrary to God's will and in God's eyes that is sin. God is very clear about what is right and wrong and to break these absolutes is sin.

Sin is “any want of conformity unto or transgression of the law of God” (1Jo_3:4; Rom_4:15), in the inward state and habit of the soul, as well as in the outward conduct of the life, whether by omission or commission (Rom_6:12-17; Rom_7:5-24). Sin is not a mere violation of the law of our constitution, nor of the system of things, but an offense against a personal lawgiver and moral governor who vindicates his law with penalties.

Sin is anything against the nature of God. It can be small or it can be big. David, in the Bible, committed a sin and before He confessed to anyone, he said- "it is against you alone, God that I have sinned. Other people were involved however he knew that a sin was against God. When you compare yourself to the holiness and greatness of God how can we say we are sinless? We need Christ!!

In the Christian religion -------sin--to miss the mark--Aim at the target(Jesus righteousness) each day that is the goal each time we miss the mark(sin) we have two choices
1.) To do nothing and stay in sin
2.) Go to 1john 1:9-10 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
