Numerous reasons:
availability
reliability
dependability
ease of maintenance
availability of parts & service
style
SIZE
luxury
safety rating
price

not to mention that most of the coach companies that "stretch & convert" are here in the U.S & have the availability of Ford/Lincoln/Mercury support for O.E.M. approved parts & alterations/modifications that can be done without voiding warranties.

Many of the same reasons why many police cars are Ford Crown Victorias & many emergency vehicles (ambulance) start out as a Ford Truck

Town Cars are popular limos because they are very smooth, easy to work on, reliable, and last for ever. They are also available at a heavily discounted prive for fleet buyers. If you want to see other limos check out Madison Avenue in New York. Kast time I was up there I saw a BMW 5 series limo, X5 limo, Porsche Cayenne limmo, Bently Continental Flying Spur lomo, Mercedes S class limo, Cadillac Escalade EXT (the pick up truck0 limo, and a million others. For prom this year my group is going in a 2006 BMW 760Li stretch.

There is no real reason why town cars are the more popular choice. However, in recent years mercedes and bmw have made limos. Check the link below.

Any car can be made into a limo. And i seriously mean ANY.

Town cars are the most common because that is what a lot of celebrities use. And be honest, when people rent a limo, what they are wanting is luxury, and wanting to show/feel like they are important.
I had a Chrystler 300 limo for my prom, and ive seen a pt cruiser limo, a Ford F150 limo, and quite a few others.

It's all about the Benjamins! Cheaper to buy, cheaper to maintain..its a limo BUSINESS after all. Limos are stretched by aftermarket companies and they DO stretch BMW's, Mercedes, Hummers, etc, but those cost more to rent. I wanna know if anyone has stretched a hybrid for mass production yet.

Mazda is not a luxury car brand. Mazda is a economical car brand which is on the same level with Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, KIA, Ford, Volkswagen. Luxury car brands would be like Lexus, Infiniti, Accura, BMW, Porsche, Audi, and Mercedes. I think Lexus, Infiniti, and Accura. These three car brands are not very costly to maintain compared to the other luxury car brands (especially Lexus). Lexus has the least problem among all of the luxury car brand and very reliable. My sister-in-law is a Lexus owner, she bought that car 7 years ago, and her car still works well without much problems occurred. And I agree with "AUDI RS4 RULES!!!" answer regarding Infiniti and Accura. Mercedes and BMW are more likely to have problems. Mercedes cars sometimes have problems within the mechanics and the fuel. While BMW cars sometimes have electrical and glitches problems.

Much cheaper and much, much cheaper to maintain and repair.

Limos can easily do 500,000 miles, but maintenance is crucial and by far the most expensive part of running the limo. So the consideration is low cost of parts and /labour.

German cars are notoriously expensive for parts and labour. They just don't cut it in North America.

Plus the Town car has a huge trunk. That is a big deal if you have 4 suitcases and 2 sets of golf clubs.

Town Cars are most affordable to buy, stretch and maintain in a fleet.
