How can you get the labels off glass bottles cleanly?

We have several wine bottles we want to use for a bottle tree. They have those gummy labels on them. Help please.

I would soak them in hot soapy dish water.
My husband would use Goo Gone.

i work in the napa wine country for a label printer, and most all of my clients say that the best method to remove wine labels is to soak the bottle in water warm-ish water for a while, 30 minutes or so, then take one of those green nylon scrubby things for doing dishes and have at it. it is going to take a lot of elbow grease, but will eventually come off. Sometimes I have been told that adding some dish soap helps a bit.

Or try goo gone and the scrubby pad.

Soak them in water first and scrub off as much of the paper as you can.
Then, get a product called Goo Gone. You'll find it at hardware stores like Lowe's or Home Depot and possibly at other places.
It's specifically made to remove sticky label glue. You just squirt it on, let it sit a couple of minutes and wipe off. Then wash the bottle with soap and water.
Totally gone with no scratching!

I use very hot soapy water & add about 1/8th c. of ammonia & let it soak until the water is cool enough to put my hands in. By this time, the label should have slid off / or will slide off very easily, of the bottle/jar. Then I wash as usual, rinsing well & air drying. No sticky goo, spots, or film. This works well on most plastics as well.

I use both recyled bottles and new when I bottle my homemade wine. To get the lables off. Fill a tub with water and two cups of ammonia let it soak over night and the lables and most of the glue will just slip right off. Do not however mix the ammonia with anything else. Good luck my friend.

How To Remove Labels
To remove the tacky residue left behind when removing those peel off labels on glass, ceramic or plastic goods, use metal polish on a paper towel. A quick wash in hot water and detergent will complete the job.

The best way to remove sticky labels is to use a paper towel with regular vegetable oil by rubbing it on the entire area for about 30 seconds, then let it sit overnight. By the next morning it should be easy to remove with warm, soapy water.

The goo gone works great but I've also found out so does mayonnaise and WD40. The oil in the mayonnaise eats the glue residue left from a sticker or label.

Soak them in warm water and use your fingernail to get the gummy stuff off. Sometimes you won't need your nails. Soaking for a bit gets it off. If it is hard or old gummy labels, still soak and do the rest, but then use WINDEX and use what my mom used to call "elbow grease"...that means work harder and it will come off. LOL

use a razor blade very carefullyy. I've used them to get off wine labels. Good luck. Be carefull doing it.
