I really super want a tat on my throat but I don't want to damage my vocal chords or anything else that's even mildly important in that area. ADVICE???

You can tattoo pretty much anywhere with skin. The needle only goes in roughly 1/16", so no bone or whatever will be touched.

I'm guessing you mean neck and not throat, but that should still be as safe to tattoo as any other area. However, an artist needs to keep the skin taut to make a good tattooing, and that pressure on the throat would minimally be rather uncomfortable. I would imagine that the needle pressed up against the area would be rather more painful than other locations.

Assuming a good artist & shop, there are no other risks barring the really unusual & uncommon - ink allergies (red mostly), for example.

Addendum: Oops, meant to say 'pressure on throat' as opposed to 'pressure on neck'; thanks to that one guy for catching it. My ink stops just below the t-shirt line, so although I don't have any experience I would assume the neck isn't too bad. The throat should be a real experience.

Professional tattoo artists will not tat your neck or face or wrists to hands. They are conscience of the affect tattoos can have on your professional life (and sometimes personal). So many people nowadays try to go for tattoo removal and it is hundreds of times more expensive than actually getting a tattoo.

It's just not worth it because it will give you temporary satisfaction and the attention you so much want but then.... you will get older and the neck area is the one that visibly gets the saggiest fastest. There is nothing nastier than a grandma with faded blue-grey tattoo on her neck. Yuk

It's about as safe to get a tattoo on your throat or neck as it is anywhere else...the needle is fairly superficial. The neck is a MAJOR committment to ink my friend...think on this long and hard.

yes it is safe to get tattooed on your neck; the ink only goes 1/16 inch into your skin.. it is not going to damage anything on the inside-- IT DOESNT GO PAST THE SKIN!!

The Undertaker from the WWE has "SARA" tattooed on his throat. Actually looks pretty cool to me. I think it's his wifes name.

Ummm... No. You could get an infected needle, and then your throat would get all... Swellish. Get a henna tatoo instead. Cheaper, and if you get tired of it, you don't have to waste a lot of money to remove it.

i never knew you could tattoo on your actual throat! that's weird. but anyway, i suggest you should't try it because it sounds really risky. you might get an infection because of the things that go inside your throat.

On your neck is ok, but not on your actual throat (esophagus, etc.), although I'm sure you didn't mean that.
