This is pretty common and it is a form of an obsession. You can start out with cognitive/behavior therapy and see a therapist. Usually antidepressants help if you do not respond to the talk therapy. The antidepressant will control the anxiety and the obsessive symptoms.

Thats interesting that I have the same phobia. It's actually more common than you think. I think it is worth looking into why you have that fear. For example, what are you really scared of? For me, it's not so much of my fear of getting sick, it's actually getting sick and other people knowing about it...hearing me, seeing me, etc., which is actually rooted in a social anxiety type thing. So if you try to treat or work on the social anxiety thing, it isn't as bad. I also try to focus on and think to myself "what is the worst thing that can happen if I get sick?" Answer that question, then ask yourself "then what?" Answer that question, then ask yourself "then what?" Basically the idea with this strategy is to identify your irrational fears of getting sick. I hope you understand what I'm saying. It would also be worth going to a therapist because there are probably underlying issues there such as maybe anxiety or something. Good luck!

I suffer from that, I found that the only cure for that is within yourself, I had to think back of when I started fearing it. I was a little girl when I got really sick with something, I remember vomiting so much that I felt like I was sufficating, because I was and it scared me so bad I just stopped throwing up,I never wanted to feel that type of fear again so I refused to throw up anymore, it wasn't until a couple of years ago that I was able to be sick in a normal way ,thanks to my husband, he stayed with me when I vomited in a bucket in my bedroom, and talked me through it as weird as that sounds, but it helped me realize that I wasn't going to die! So I guess I'm telling you to find someone your extremley close to and tell them the problem and ask them to stay with you while your sick so you are not alone, tell them to talk to you, it helps take your mind off your fear. It will get easier for you I promise. I don't believe in all the new pills the shrinks are prescribing for this that or the other, it's all in your head you just have to find it within yourself to fix it.

In recent years I came to realize that all my life I have had panic attacks at throwing-up all my early years.
Since being treated for depression and other issues that caused me to panic in other areas, this fear has also become minimal - I know I won't die from it.
(But it's still Yucchy)
