This is a very good question.Major religions believe that they are the only truth, and that all others are untruth and will have their followers burn in hell forever.Major religions have also brought the whole "doomsday" concept, and are always trying to find some date for which god will come down and kill anyone who opposes their faith and give them an infinite punishment for a finite crime.
And everytime there is something opposing their faith, they will pull out a scripture from their faith, this revelation, that gospel,King James,Timothy,Qu'ran,Tohrah. They will use their religion and its scriptures to spread hatred, even if all the prophets sent to Earth to preserve religion wanted peace.
When I explain texts from the Bhagavad Gita (don't call me a hypocrite),it will explain how to love god,how to attain god, rather then how to condemn another faith or spread hatred or explain some doomsday date : )
The Bhagavad Gita (Hindu scripture) is a spiritual discussion between Lord Krishna (an incarnation of god,no different then god) and Arjuna (a powerful warrior with four other brothers who are also very powerful),the scene happened 5,000 years ago.Arjuna his four brothers and various generals and soldiers are about to engage in an epic battle against the opposing army, composed of their one hundred cousins (who are all evil except for one). The opposing army unfortunately has many of Arjuna's loved ones like his teachers, grandfather and many friends, many of the relatives were there because of various reasons and circumstances. The two armies are going to fight over the capital of the world,Hasthinapur.the story leading up to the battle takes a long time to explain. In the end of the battle over one billion die. However after both armies blow their counch shells,Arjuna is struck by grief at seeing so many of his relatives in the opposing army.He tells Lord Krishna (his divine charioteer) to drive the chariot to the middle of the two armies,Arjuna refuses to fight,he asks Lord Krishna the benifit of entering such bloody warfare, the meaning of life,what/who is god etc.And the various things they say is explained in the Bhagavad Gita. There are over 600 verses in the Bhagavad Gita,I am going to explain the chapter where they talk about other religions and the many paths toward god.
Lord Krishna explains in this chapter to Arjuna how religions do not come in names, but instead come in goodness, passion and ignorance. No matter what religion, they can be used for the three purpouses.A good religion is one that teaches self relization, teaches how to love god,how to attain god and how to overall be a good human being.A passionate religion is one that teaches how to attai benifit in the world and an ignorant religion is meant to destroy the world,to cause havoc,to engage in worldly activities.
I can use Christianity,Islam,Judism as an example. In goodness,Christianity promotes peace, promotes charity, worship of god etc. This is original Christianity. This version of Christianity,Islam,Jusism is the true version, the one sent by god, whatever is sent by god is always for our benifit.
In passion Christianity,Islam,Judism will tell you how to get rich, how to live life, how to help mankind. This version has been tampered by humans.
In ignorance,Christianity,Islam and Judism will teach you how to slaughter those who are not your faith, how to wait for doomsday and how to spread hatred, this version is the contaminated and mutilated version fallen humans and humans in a demoniac status have created.

Whether something is right or wrong does not depend on what this or that person was taught, or chooses to believe. It rather depends on whether it is fact, or not. This can be checked out by any honest hearted individual who is willing to do their own research.

The only true God teaches the truth... facts that are actually harmonious with both true science, & with each other, within his Word the Bible. And, that is something to take *note* of, because the Bible has over 40 penmen, most of whom never met one another, and yet everything each penned is harmonious with all of what each of the others penned. This is because they were all inspired from the same source... The Creator & life-giver, Jehovah God.

Only God's chosen people teach 100% in harmony with what the BIble actually teaches, & understand Bible prophecy in the way that makes sense. They also --world wide-- voluntarily help others who want to learn about what God says in it, and how to apply its principles...

Well, one way to know is after you die. But, to know that you're religion is 'the right one' is a act of faith. I think to be an athiest is the hardest because if religion is right, then you lose and is it isn't, you still lose(because you die). No, people will not get excused from the one God just because they have been taught something else. I think if you search hard enough in your heart or in life, you will find God. I have been brought up Christian, and I first grew up in a Christian Family, but then I found him on my own.
Read Case For Faith. It talks about it. It is by Lee Strobel.

Not all Christians do that. As an individual who used to comply with that philosophy, I is also competent to deliver you an reply, regardless that. I might say the ones detailed matters on the grounds that of the entire variations I'd discover in church buildings I'd pass to. I'd end up so pissed off with making an attempt to determine what I was once "meant" to suppose, I ultimately gave up. I grabbed my Bible and began studying. I do have a individual courting with Jesus, and by way of the Bible I discovered the way in which He desired me to reside. Therefore, I did not determine myself with any distinct denomination of Christianity. I conveniently lived because the Bible informed me I must.

I happen to understand all religions come from God( also known as Krishna, Jehovah, Allah, Vishnu, etc.) it is just that man changes the meaning and misinterprets them so God has to keep coming or sending His representative to reestablish the truth again and again. Krishna says in the Gita " Whenever there is a decline in religious principles and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send My representative to reestablish the truth." For info on universal truth (Krishna Consciousness) go to harekrishnatemple.com Read Bhagavad Gita As it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada- tells all paths.

That's the problem with claiming that there is One True Way.
Divinity (whatever you want to call it) is Perfect. We're not. Religion is manmade, so is imperfect. I think Divinity has several aliases, but then again, I could be wrong. That's the joy of it. Religion is about building a personal relationship with Divinity, correct? Doesn't that kind of imply that Divinity is what we need it to be?
Sorry if I'm not making sense....

Like the scriptures, to find answers you must search, Then ponder and think it out in your mind, Then pray about it and Wait in humble prayer for an answer. It may not come immediatly but it will come, you must listen.
You must study all religions, investigate all, not just muslims, or hindu, or mainstream Christianity. But all, including Mormonism. You may be suprised by the answer. But search with faith and ask in faith (James 1:5-6)

I was raised in many different churches. Pentecostal, Church of God, Assembly of God, Full Gospel and independent. I had to learn the bible myself. I prayed for God to help me. I studied the Bible everyday and God helped me.
because I asked sincerely God revealed a lot of things to me in the Bible.
Later someone invited me to church, a church I have never even seen, it was 20 miles from my home. When I heard the preacher I knew we believed alike. I have been going there for over 9 years, and we agree on most everything, that is the power of God.

Ask God! Pray with all the sincerity of your and heart and then go looking with that prayer in your heart!
James 1:5-6
5. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth to all men liberally and upbraideth not and it shall be given him.
6. And ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavereth is like a wave upon the sea, driven with the wind and tossed.
