I have to ask this question...

I keep hearing how abortion kills babies. Which conjures up pictures of cute and cuddly babies that are slaughtered. I agree that abortion is murder. But have you considered when you are worrying about the cute and cuddly little baby, that this baby that is saved might grow up to be an adult.

Would you for a minute take into consideration what is happening in countries like Peru where there are children who are born into poverty and abortion is outlawed. Many of these cute and cuddly little children are not being adopted and end up on the streets. Are you sure that if we try to protect all of these babies that EVERY child will be adopted? The waiting lists may go on for one or two years, but after that, there will be a surplus of babies being born. Are you so sure that there will be more parents waiting to adopt that surplus.

Think this concept through of wanting abortion made illegal. I hate the idea of a terminated life, but quality of life matters!

Do the math on couples waiting for adoptions and the number of abortions per year. Multiply the abortions by 5 years or 10 and are you sure that there will be enough qualified families to adopt these children????

I think the "pro-life" people have basically made a fetish of their cause, and lost sight of the reality of the issue itself. Their idea seems to be that all life is precious until it leaves the womb. Now I am not "pro-abortion" and I don't believe that anybody in his or her right mind is "pro-abortion," nor would any right-minded person accuse others of that position. But the reality is that as long as women get pregnant, some women will have abortions. It'll always be available to the wealthy at any rate; only the poor and truly desperate, the least able to care for children, will have to resort to the back alley.

I honestly believe that the moral outrage over abortion has as much to do with the fact that it's connected to sex as that it involves the destruction of a life. People wax indignant that abortion is used by "loose, irresponsible women" as a form of "birth control," etc. Maybe I just have a higher opinion of humanity, but I doubt that the vast majority of women who have to make this decision take it lightly.

I don't oppose it. It should be a womans choice. But I think it really only should be done if the baby or the mother or both lives were at risk or some other health issue involved.

It shouldn't be turned into a factory line killing innocent babies in any country just for the sake of not enough foster or adoptive families. If gay marriage and adoption was really legal everywhere, there would be more families that could adopt the children instead of having to abort them. Sorry, just how I feel about the issue.

I've heard all the excuses before... such as the following

Abortion is good because why take the risk of letting those babies grow up and perhaps be poor, let's save them the misery... since life isn't sacred, like those backward religious people think.

Abortion helps the mental health of a mother... instead of having a reminder of an unwanted child around- which causes so much stress... you can rest at ease, knowing that you took all his troubles away, by allowing doctors to smash his skull in... there now... feel better?

Abortion is a humane treatment... Not onlys does it save the problem of child's future pain of misfortune or hardships, it solves the problem child itself... the final solution.

Abortion is neccesary because the mother's life is usually a risk <--- this is a lie, and risk to the mother rarley ever happens.

"Abortion is the right of the woman, it's her body. Its a choice"... but the Baby isn't "her body" it is a living being... Under what excuse does anyone have the right to take his/her life away???

"Abortion is neccesary because back ally abortions would prevale if "Safe"Abortion was illegal."<---- Back ally abortions happen all the time... what kinda sorry ace excuse is this?

"It's not a baby, its a cluster of cells... so it's not human, you can kill it." <---- you're a cluster of cells too... take a look at these cell clusters...

Abortion has a nice name, called Pro-Choice...

But it should be called Pro-Baby slaughter.... because that's what it is.

I don't think any hypothetical excuse is good enough to snuff out a child's life, and through it in the trash.

Apparently, it's good enough for abortionist.

How sad...

I wouldn't call myself an atheist, but I do not subscribe to any of the major religions. I guess I'd call myself 'spiritual'. That being said, I strongly oppose abortion on grounds that have absolutely nothing to do with my 'spirituality'. My oppositions comes from the biological fact that after about the 2nd month, a fetus' nervous system is almost complete and the process of abortion literally rips that living, FEELING human being apart. You'd hear them scream if they weren't in a liquid environment. And, if you consider the fact that abortion is legal and performed at ANY stage of pregnancy, up to and including the point of birth, any rational person would have to agree that it's an incredibly horrendous and barbaric practice. As for 'freedom hating', I've got to tell you that nothing deprives a person's freedom more than death, particularly when that death literally involves the act of being drawn and quartered without the benefit of anesthesia. All so that the mother, whose irresponsibility played a major role in the creation of this human being, does not have to deal with the inconvenience of her and her boyfriend's actions. Yeah, you're a real enlightened dude. But good question, hope that helps.

My feeling is this....I thank God that abortion is a decision I never had to make. I firmly believe that every abortion has two victims....the mother and the baby!
I don't believe that women are told the truth about what really happens during the abortion procedure. I don't feel that women are told that they are going to literally vacuum the baby and the baby comes out in pieces. I don't believe they tell the mom that long after the procedure is done it is possible that they may become depressed, feel a loss that no one will ever be able to fulfill, guilt ridden, as well as being forced to live a life with a big secret.
Who tells the mom that this is not a quick fix or that she will never be the same? Certainly not the clinic.

I think that even people who are PRO abortion don't want it to be used as birth control!

We need to educate people, everyone, everywhere, how NOT to have babies. If that means abstinence, so be it.

I agree that having an unwanted, adoptable baby seems like the worst choice of all but still, I can't get past the fact that abortion kills HUMAN BEINGS and that's just wrong. And yes, I'm against the death penalty too.

It's a really tough subject and I'm sure it will never be resolved in my lifetime... {{sigh}}

Ease your mind a little hon. Early abortion is not murder. The glob of cells has no nervous system, feels nothing... nada, zero.

A zygote has the potential to be a human, just as I have the potential to learn Chinese.... each is a long way off. And yes, your concern of population is very true. The average Kenyan woman has nine children. And no way to support them....

There are more sadnesses.... in Nepal, the government, knowing that their major problem was population began to have a campaign to encourage couples to limit the size of their families. In 2002, (I was there and saw the signs, and read the newspapers) big billboards were put up all along Ring Road in Katmandu, Nepal, with the message of family planning .... our government under Bush pulled all foreign aid from Nepal!!!!! I was there!!!! Have you noticed that the Bushes have only two children?????

There are now 6.5 billion of us on this planet, and our air and resources are being stretched to the limit... over population and feeding all these people is almost hopeless without birth control, whatever form it takes....

There is a little story... two guys were in the middle of a flooding patio, one madly trying to mop up all the water, and getting no where. The other turned off the faucet. We as a planet, need to begin turning off faucets---- encouraging people to plan their families more carefully.

In Singapore if you and your husband have a second child, your housing allowance is reduced, and your are demoted in your company.... same in parts of China.

So, hon, it isn't terminating life.... these are just a clump of cells... If you were to back this idea up a step, you could be in rural India, where it is a "sin" (they don't use that word) if a woman's egg is NOT fertilized... even if rape is involved.......that is a person screaming to be born!!!! ridiculous isn't it?

Well, when it is life? It is life, and murder, when the foetus is old enough to survive outside the mother. .... before that, it is a parasite.

Oppose abortion or pro abortion is not really the question. Pro choice is the way to go. If each individual is permitted the choice AND those who oppose abortion present their case clearly then they should agree with the choice. We do not need laws to control our every action, this is the land of the free after all. Every law we insist on being passed places another restriction on us and then we complain about what we can no longer do. Don't lobby for laws just educate everyone so they can make a good choice.

"But have you considered when you are worrying about the cute and cuddly little baby, that this baby that is saved might grow up to be an adult. "

Yes.Age has nothing to do with it.

"Many of these cute and cuddly little children are not being adopted and end up on the streets."

Which is extremely unfortunate, however there are many groups working to help these kids, such as:

"but quality of life matters!"

So what should we do next? KIll all the elderly who want to live? After all, quality of life matters! Kill all the people in half way houses and homeless shelters? After all, quality of life matters!

Searcher,
My wife and I are past our Child-bearing years. There are a number of us who would gladly begin assisting in raising young children if we were called to do so. There are also a number of caring parents who might cut the number of children that they would have and adopt rather than have another child if they were asked to do so. This society that we live in generally steps up to the plate when they have an opportunity to do so. My belief in NOT KILLING is a belief that it is wrong in all cases not just in some. I do not want children to grow up in homes or on the street but I want them murdered even less so. Have a great evening and a wonderful LORD's DAY!
Thanks,
Eds, Christian
