with so many unsolved murders, rapes, and episodes of theivery, why don't the cops go out and try to solve them? why do they just sit in their cars, doing nothing, until they find someone they can MAKE into a criminal? are they really that lazy?

it's kinda hard to find evidence sleeping in a patrol car with the air conditioner on, or napping at their desk, or eating donuts at the coffee shop, isn't it?
as for "putting their life on the line"!!
hahahahahahaha!!
don't make me laugh.

Well you got to look at it this way. In some areas like LA, most of the more serious crimes are largely commited by illegal immigrants. If I remember correctly it is about 95% of all outstanding warrents in LA are for illegal immigrants. However illegals cannot be detained because they are protected by watchdog groups, sanctuary policies, and they can just escape through the border if the going gets tough. Not only that but because of our laws most of the time the person has to actually commit a crime before anything is done to them. A good example is a recent one on how they did nothing about the Virginia tech shooter because he didn't do anything that they could get him for until he killed 30 people. Because of the way our court system works with innocent until proven guilty as its motto; authorities have to get a mountain of proof before they do anything about it. The thing you have to realize is that the cops don't usually do anything because they have their hands tied by the law, political correctness, funding, and they are probably a little afraid of some of the lawyers out there who will sue them until they are broke if they could even possibly be considered overzealous. So I guess I'm saying give cops a break sure some might be lazy but it isn't exactly the easiest job in the world.

OK.... You might wanna stop with the whole eating donuts thing. That's Hollywood right there. I never once seen a PO while on duty go into a donut shop and eat donuts all day. So do us all a favor and shut your little mouth! The reason why cops can't solve some crimes could be various reasons, and you obviously don't know that Detectives can have several cases at one point and time (depending on the dept., etc.). Also, with people like you giving them criticism, it's not the easiest trying to get more information because no one likes to snitch on anyone.
Also, you're making fun of the FACT that they put their life on the line. I'm not even going to respond to that because I don't want to have my yahoo name deleted for what I say to you.
I'm sorry, you're just to _______ to waste anymore of my time on.

Patrol officers secure crime scenes and evidence until detectives arrive.
Detectives do the follow up and investigate leads.
It isn't like television where the first officer at the scene follows the crime all the way through and finds out who did it.
As for sleeping in the car with the AC on, that is a good way to die of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is also an invitation to criminals to sneak up and shoot the sleeping officer.
We have air conditioned cot rooms in the station. They're much safer.

As was said, it's detectives who solve, but in general the police can't act if there is no concrete evidence (witness, crime lab analysis or probable cause) to present. Judges, prosecuting attorneys, and magistrates want to see police reports that would name names, convince the jury, or show good reason for a search warrant or arrest order. In cases of murder, the crime lab would be called. In rape cases, they hand it off to the hospital or an advocate, and in thievery they have to either witness it or have the victim press charges. They can't just arbitrarily arrest people.
You have no idea the amount of paperwork they do each day, the stress they have, and what they see on a day to day basis. They can never lazy.

well if there is no one they think they cant nail with the crime from the evidence found what would you like them to do... make someone into a criminal as you said?? that is why they are unsolved, because they cannot find anymore evidence, and that is kinda important in solving a crime.

OK, the cops on the road, are watching for crimes to occur. For example, speeding, reckless driving, drunk driving, etc. There jobs are to keep the roads safe. The cops in charge of solving crimes are detectives...they dont drive in cruisers and they dont sit and clock speeders because its not their job to do so.
and second....cops don't MAKE criminals....criminals MAKE themselves criminals!

Cops don't solve crimes, the Investigators solve crimes. My brother is a police sargent over adult & child sex crimes. He solves crimes, he "gets his man".
