This is absolutely amazing to me. I've seen so many stereotypes, but this tops it. Why do most of you think the Taliban set the rules for all of us? We HATE them. They are dangerous and enforce cruel culture, NOT Islam. Had they enforced Islam, they would not be burning schools and shooting teachers. Nowhere does it say that a woman may not be educated. The Quran does say in several places, as well as there being many hadiths about it, that a woman is obligated to the highest education possible. People think if a muslim woman went to college, she must have been in the West. Well, not always true. There are many college for women in the same feilds as men in the "islamic" countries. I've been to Pakistan, and I've seen one of the women's colleges myself. I have friends in Pakistan at the moment studying to become doctor's in the women's area of the hospital's. When I was in Pakistan, those treating my daughter were women, along with men. Why are most of you so brainwashed?

First of all whatever we seen in Afghanistan was all their old culture not Islam...they got power and they used power to implement the culture....second the majority of Talibans were non-afghanis foreigners from all over the world...the irony in muslims is that every politician use the name of Islam and verses from Quraan and Hadith.....I remember when Pakistani opposition MMA was doing its election campaign they show Quraan to people and ask would u give vote to this or not??? and things like that...that could boost the emotions of an ordinary illetrate and uneducated person...this is what Pakistan is victim for very very long.....and the most sensitive areas used for this was Pathans(Pashto speaking) the Province of NWFP and FATA there.....generally pathan people are assumed to b very very simple in Pakistan they are energetic and emotional for their culture and their religion.......further their border connects to afghanistan thats y they have inter marriages also...and probably thats y they became the victim of political motives and were used first against Russia(I would say the true Jihad) and later for Talibans in the name of Islam....please understand that the cultural setup in Pakistan u can divide into three one in the province of Sindh....(Pakistan has 4 province Sindh Punjab NWFP and Balochistan).....in Sindh and Balochistan illetracy is mainly due to people called wadairas (Land lords) legally or illegally they have big areas of land and when they unite poor people dont left with any chance parties approach them and they join the parties on best offers cuz their triumph is confirmed...these people always try their best that no one should get enough qualification or setup that tomorrow they can stand before them so their ultimate task is to keep people under them poor and uneducated.....Again in the name of Islam they have cases where a girl is married to Quraan (and lives all life without a husband)....many many cases are their where couples have been killed for their own interest (love) marriages unfortunately again in the name of Islam........in Balochistan the Govt recently did an operation and killed one of major such leaders their main target was no school in balochistan no development work......now coming to Punjab.....when in 712 Hijri Muhammad Bin Qasim attacked from Iraq to Indian subcontinent y?? because the area was controlled by almost 100% hindus and the leader their name Raja Daahir was very bad to the people the a culture called satti was there according to which if husband dies the widow was also killed .......one hindu lady was in cage and she written a letter for help with her blood after that the Calph of Iraq that time warned the Raja Dahir to do justice with people that he ignored ultimately a force was established to attack indian subcontinent and make justice there Muhammad Bin Qasim is supposed to be the youngest journalist in Islamic History cuz he was only 17 years old boy.....he attacked and captured and he was followed by many of Sufis as Baghdad was the centre of sufism and advanced education that time even people from europe were coming their for advanced studies......its said when Changaiz Khan attacked baghdad he burn all the liabraries and thrown books of advanced research in river (Dajla i think) that blocked the water of river......Baghdad had large number of muslim scients the names are Mathematicican Jabir Bin Hayan, Bu Ali Seena biolgist i think and many many more.....after Muhammad Bin Qasim captured the sufis started inviting people to Islam...Khawaja Moinudin Chishti is one of the biggest name in these sufis from whom the Chishti chain of Sufism started...as Islam was a very new thing to people there it was exactly what they wanted from ages Islam attracted to millions of people and thus the history of Pakistan begins.....y i talked about this back ground.....cuz after years and years the ancesstors of these sufis were accepted cuz of their elders no doubt some of them were still reall spritual sufis but seeing the public respect most of them get quack and greedy and were approached by politicans cuz despite knowing the present persons reality people in villages still respect what their elders were and give votes to them.......thus what wadairas were doing in Sindh and Balochistan they started doing in Punjab however they couldnt succeed their for many reasons....yet its said that in Pakistan vote is given to the person not to the party the present Govt of Pakistan is an example they have no leader but yet they are in Govt. for the same reason.....thats why they are mainly relying on President Musharraf as their leader....the worst thing in some areas of punjab is the Panchait culture where a comittee of people decide punishments recently a girl was ordered to rape and march nude in public by a panchait though govt was taken strickt action but irony for all of us again in the name of Islam......i remember my sister a doctor when she took admission in Medical College my Grand father who was a leading clerik in that area said to my dad u doing some thing very bady by giving such an adult education to your daughter....but when near to his death when he got ill and my own sister was involved in his operation he realised the fact.....Islam allows right to woman to get divorce by a court but my same Grand Father always opposed....unfortunately again in the name of Islam......now coming to NWFP where i would say these cultural effects are the most extreme than any other area of Pakistan.......where a girl is not supposed to go outside her home...again in the name of Islam.......in past some of them used to sale their girls for big money and thus the boy side get a free license to treat this woman as he or his family want ....thats y many times many girls were burnt alive and some charge of cheating was put on them and the person killing was supposed to be the respectful giving punishmet to such girl......Oh God again in the name of Islam........so finally the collection of all this succeeded to form a Govt. in Afghanistan and that is the reason why the Pakistan opposition has Govt in NWFP cuz people reacted to Musharaffs decision to allow america to attack afghanistan....as far i no people personaly dont like MMA leadership but they dont have any other option to express their anger......any ways its just small history i expressed here to clear the worlds idea about Islam and the cultural effects v all are facing......may God give us the right thinking and right approach to life.......

I agree. They dont even educate themselves about what islam is. I'm from Pakistan and was thinking about going to medical college there instead of here because it is cheaper so I know what you are saying. People seem to have this misconception that muslim women are not allowed to think for themselves and even after explaining to them they dont understand. I cannot speak for all muslims because there are the type of muslims existing that are shown in the media but those are not the majority. The muslim population is big and in more than any group of more than a billion people there are bound to be some idiots in there. I'm not saying all muslims are good people; I'm only saying that those muslims are not representative of islam.

TheCarp:
first of all , that had nothing to do with the question.

second, its not just the muslims doing the killing.

I dont agree with killing of innocents no matter what their religion is. i guess you disagree with that.

ali I could give an answer to all of this! but what is the point I've done it tons of time before and no one seems to care

What is islam? Do you define what islam is? Where do you think the Taliban got their version of islam from? Do you consider youself an islamic scholar, more islamic than the Taliban? How many years of study did you pursue in islamic education? Have you studied arabic and did an in-depth reading of the Quran and the various Sahih Hadiths to determine what the true message of the Quran is?

I can tell you that the Taliban has done all that. Have you?

It is true that the islamic sources did not say that "Women may not be educated". Instead it says that "Women are deficient in intelligence".

(Sahih Bukhari 2:24:541, Sahih Bukhari 1:6:301, Sahih Bukhari 2:24:541).

Now, since women are deficient in intelligence, then what is the point of them going to school and getting an education? It would be just a waste of time. That is how the Taliban came up with that law, not through their whims and fancies, but through in-depth islamic scholarship.

You said, "The Quran does say in several places, as well as there being many hadiths about it, that a woman is obligated to the highest education possible".

I'm not familiar with such a statement and I have never come across any such verse. Either you are lying or you are extremely ignorant. Can you please show us where in the Quran and in the "many hadiths" that it says that? In fact it says that "Women are generally inferior". (Qur'an 2:228, Qur'an 4:34)

So I think you are the one who is either brainwashed, or intentionally lying.

Lawrence: So that is the best you can do. When you can't logically refute the Quran and the Sahih Hadiths, when you can't explain why there is full of hate in the Quran, you start to attack me instead. So basically are you saying that you don't believe in the Quran, you don't believe in the Sahih Hadiths?

TS: Of course we have to live in the 20th century, not the 7th century. The world has changed since prophet's Muhammad time. The problem is with the Quran. Do you have the authority to change the Quran? Do you have the authority to overide Muhammad's orders as recorded in the Sahih Hadiths? Do you think any muslim can throw away the Quran?

Yeah right.

I hear there are Muslim terrorist training camps in Pakistan!

If you really opposed burning schools and shooting teachers then why don't I hear your opposition of C.A.I.R.?

U.S. Government officials declare this organization to support terrorism and the overthrow of the American Government to adhere to Muslim Sharia Law!

Here are some points to ponder!

Since its founding in 1994, the Council on American-Islamic Relations and its employees have combined, conspired,
and agreed with third parties, including, but not limited to, the Islamic Association for Palestine (“IAP”), the
Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development (“HLF”), the Global Relief Foundation (“GRF”), and foreign
nationals hostile to the interests of the United States, to provide material support to known terrorist organizations,
to advance the Hamas agenda, and to propagate radical Islam. The Council on American-Islamic Relations,
and certain of its officers, directors, and employees, have acted in support of, and in furtherance of, this conspiracy.

CAIR Employees And Officials Support Terror

Senior CAIR employee Randall Todd Royer, a/k/a “Ismail” Royer, pled guilty and was sentenced to twenty years in prison
for participating in a network of militant jihadists centered in Northern Virginia. He admitted to aiding and abetting three persons
who sought training in a terrorist camp in Pakistan for the purpose of waging jihad against American troops in Afghanistan.
Royer’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed with CAIR

CAIR's Director of Community Relations, Bassem Khafagi , was arrested by the United States due to his ties with a
terror-financing front group. Khafagi pled guilty to charges of visa and bank fraud, and agreed to be deported to Egypt.
Khafagi’s illegal actions occurred while he was employed by CAIR.

On December 18, 2002, Ghassan Elashi, founding board member of CAIR-Texas, a founder of the Holy Land Foundation,
and a brother-in-law of Musa Abu Marzook , was arrested by the United States and charged with, among other things,
making false statements on export declarations, dealing in the property of a designated terrorist organization, conspiracy
and money laundering. Ghassan Elashi committed his crimes while working at CAIR, and was found Guilty.

CAIR Board Member Imam Siraj Wahaj, an un-indicted co-conspirator in the first World Trade Center bombing,
has called for replacing the American government with an Islamic caliphate, and warned that America will crumble
unless it accepts Islam.

Rabih Haddad served as a CAIR Fundraiser. Haddad was co-founder of the Global Relief Foundation (“GRF”).
GRF was designated by the US Treasury Department for financing the Al Qaida and other terrorist organizations
and its assets were frozen by the US Government on December 14, 2001.

Consistent with Hamas ideology, CAIR has served as a conduit for the distribution of materials and funds from foreign nationals
to groups and institutions within the United States for the purpose of promoting radical Islam and Hamas ideology,
and attacked Islamic clerics and scholars who reject radical Islam and the Hamas agenda
