One day when we turned on our Sony 55" projection TV, the left side of the screen looks out of focus (red and green are offset from other colors), and on a blank screen, is slightly lighter than the right side. Also, on the far left, there is a dark bar running vertically, slightly curved on the bottom. The right side of the TV looks fine. Any idea what would cause this?

You have something in the optical train causing a prismatic effect. Most likely some debris might be on the lens(es). Has the TV been moved abruptly? The optical assembly may have shifted and needs alignment. If anybody spilled a drink and it leaked into the assembly, a syrupy coating may be on part of the optics.

Remove the screen. Check the back of the screen for irregularities. Check the projection housing and fold path. There may be debris or film on a fold mirror. If so, clean the mirror(s). Clean the outer projection lenses with lens cleaner.

Take it from me (who became wakened early this morning merely to computer screen Sesame street with my youngest daughter), you've been warned. LOL *EDIT* One mom suggested some thing about how television isn't good for somewhat one's recommendations. back, it truly relies upon on what you enable your toddler to computer screen. My daughters have consistently loved gazing television. My oldest daughter is in the sixth grade and she or he's likewise a complicated pupil. My youngest is a 4th grader and she or he's doing the artwork of a fifth grader. Plus, by the point she became in kindergarten, she became already reading at a 2d grade aspect. i understand each and every baby is diverse, yet no longer all youngster's minds are corrupted by television.

my name is michael. i work in the electroincs department at my local sears. when they trained me they pointed out that unless the rear projection is an lcd rear projection you cannot view it from an angle. angled viewing on anything else causes the sides of the screen distorted.
