I read an answer and it said the person who asked the question was...obviously trolling. I have seen that a few times now. I know it sounds stupid, but I really don't know!!

That's okay, I learned that term from being a newcomer to the internet myself!!

A troll is someone who poses as a person of a different side of a situation to make their "opponent" look bad. For instance, a lot of people will pose as Christians and say hateful things in the name of God to make Christians look nasty and mean. How I spot a troll in that case is to look at their profile and see the type of questions they ask. Typically, they are level one users and have less than 100 points and most of their questions are pretty nasty.

In some cases a person will ask a question using an identity which is a fraud if compared with previous points of view expressed in his or her questions and answers. For instance, a person who had asked questions as if he were male, suddenly asks one posing as a female. Such questions are frequently asked to evoke certain responses, generally negative, to cause the answerers to express their shock, irritation, or other agitation toward the questioner who is actually "trolling" for those responses by asking a possibly controversial question designed to elicit the respnses given.

People who make an account and give answers and ask questions just to annoy everyone else ... it doesn't sound stupid I didn't know what it was in the beginning either

It is called trolling because they are like fishing for people to aggravate... Trolling is a fishing term, or is like if they are looking for a body in the water they use a huge treble hook, and they drop it, and troll with it...To fish for or in with a moving line, working the line up or down with a rod, as in fishing for pike, or trailing the line behind a slow-moving boat.

It's where you sit in the back of your boat with your motor set on low speed, and drop your deep running lure down to a certain depth to catch fish in deep water.

Posting questions simply to provoke an emotional response, hoping to see someone over-react with their answer.

In that context, it probably means that someone isn't asking a real question.
