This happens all the time. If they didn't come in we wouldn't open. In fact, Christians pay us to work on Sunday.

This was just to the Christians who ask this question. We get a handful every Sunday. It happens at alot of places. Just making sure you guys are aware of this behavior.

Not really talking about the Sabbath, just that most Christians go to church on Sunday.

My wife has been a waitress for over thirty years and has worked many a Sunday. I asked her and she has never once been asked this question.

Perhaps it is a regional thing? Were we live most there are many religions but primarily Catholic Churches abound. Most of the Catholic Churches have mass several times on Sunday as well as on Saturday night.

Do you live in a more rural area with a single church or something?

I travel 20 miles one way to attend my church. So we often do go out to eat after services, because it's convenient. But I don't ask the people why they weren't at church.
Also, I worked in a few restaurants before I got my degree and often had to work on Sunday. As a result of that, I know what it's like to be deprived of a chance to fellowship with my church family. So I always try to be extra nice to the restaurant staff who are serving me and also leave a generous tip.

Did someone change the commandment on me? I thought it was keep the sabbath day not keep the Lord's day. The Sabbath starts at sundown on what we Roman time keepers call Friday Night. and ends Saturday at sundown. I don't think that Sunday has any part of the Sabbath in it. Then again I am Pauline in my view of what day is important. I won't quote it but will add the reference if you want to look it up.. Romans 14:5

no one asks them why they aren't in Church..even Christians don't always go to Church on Sundays.. because like the people you mentioned that work in the restaurants, they too need to work. God isn't the unreasonable, God you may believe him to be.. he understands how things are. besides, if Christians come into that restaurant, they aren't there to stare you down and punish you because you are either an athiest, or just plain didn't get to go to church that day. so if you feel that is what they are doing then perhaps it's just your conscience talking. try going to Church one sunday, or even on a Wednesday...it's not quite the crisis you probably assume it is.

I'm a restaurant manager and a Christian, and I would love to be able to take Sundays off so I can take my family to church, but it's one of the busiest times of the week. Our business owner likes being open because of the revenue during that time.

A comment to those who do go out to eat after church, please remember who you are in Christ. I've met a LOT of Christians who come in and look like they are miserable. Not the best testimony, unfortunately!!

I'm a Christian and I used to be a waitress who worked on Sundays. Preachers work on Sundays. Jesus doesn't give a fig what day you work on. He loves you and longs for you to spend time with Him.

Too bad some Christians ask you that question. They must not be thinking!

I do hate that, but I have gone out to eat after church before. I also used to have to work on Sundays and that drove me crazy.

The fourth commandment states, "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labor, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work....."

Sunday being the "Christian Sabbath", Christians should sanctified it by a holy resting all that day, even from such worldly employments and recreations as are lawful on other days; and spending the whole time in the public and private exercises of God's worship, except so much as is to be taken up in the works of necessity and mercy.

First of all, when I go out to eat after church, I never ask someone why he or she wasn't in church. It's blooming obvious--they had to work. Not every Christian is judgmental.
