If it is...

... then Christianity saying it's bad to sin means it's bad to make mistakes.

But without mistakes, you can't learn...

... hmn. A predicament, indeed.

The basic Greek definition of the word sin is "to miss the mark"
Like an archer aiming at a bulls eye but putting one deep in the hay instead.
Look up hamartia or ἁμαρτίαν.

So sin in God's eyes is more than a mistake. It is an inherited heart condition.
We can never hit the mark dead center on our own. And in order to go to Heaven, the mark MUST be hit DEAD center.

Sounds depressing? Sounds like no one would ever go there? Don't go yet, I have GREAT news!

Jesus hit the mark perfectly!!!
And if you'll put your faith in Him you'll see He hits the mark every time without fail. And in Him and Him alone, you'll gain access to Heaven.

Please don't minimize sin by simply calling it a mistake.
My Book says that Christ died for the SIN of the world, not the mistake of the world.

Dear slave of,

i think to call sin a mistake kind of takes away from the personal responsibility of sin. i mean we make mistakes all the time and we don't mean to. Sin is against God-- and so it also starts with whether or not we recognize that God has a right to tell us what is right and wrong.

i think in layman's terms it's making a personal choice to not follow God's ways.

Kindly,

Nickster

It all depends on how you sin. If you gave full consent and evilly planned to sin, no it's certainly NOT a mistake. If it was sort of an accident and you didn't mean to do it, it might be considered a mistake. But it very rarely is.

No. A sin is when your dad or mom tell you not to do one thing and they warn you that if you do break the rule then you will be punished for it. And you willfully disobey their rule anyway.

A mistake is when you do something innocently and are ignorant of the consequences of your actions.

If you keep God's terms you could end up being more godly. If you look for anything else you could end up on a path that would lead you away from God. Just a safer route to me. Keep the faith !!!
