If it's raining, then find something indoors to do. Check out your city's website and discover the local activities going on there. You will be amazed at what you can find.

Sometimes the simple things are the most enjoyable. My wife and I just today went out to an annual butterfly festival held inside a large shopping mall of an adjacent town. The admission fee went to a charity and it was fun messing with the butterflies and watching the kids reaction as hundreds of them fluttered around them, landed on them and their clothes and sucked juices from pieces of cantaloupe provided to attract them.

Whatever you do however, keep your son away from First Officer Spock and Chief Medical Officer McCoy.

When I was a kid and it would start to rain, my grandma would get all excited and say, "Let's go for a walk!" We would put on our rain gear and boots and head on out. It was great fun, especially since my mom always thought kids should stay indoors when it rained. Stomping in puddles, removing worms from the sidewalk so they wouldn't get stranded, etc. Also it is great beach weather, not too many people there and the waves are usually higher. Just to watch, of course.

Now, use common sense. You would want to go out in a thunderstorm, for safety reasons, or if your son has a cold. But otherwise, think outside the house!

is it warm.??? ..go for a duck walk in the rain with boots and rain gear.

make an obstacle course inside and move around the furniture to make it fun.

Go to an indoor playground or go to a local museum for children.

Bake something special that you have to decorate or takes a while to make but you can make together....cookies or pretzels...or anything.

Paint the windows...put a couple drops of dish detergent in the paint and it will wash off easily. Or do face painting or make masks and then watch a movie with animals in it and when your animal comes on you have to act like the animal.

Go for a drive in the car.....count what you see or see how many red things you see....

Turn the music on loud and sing and dance in the living room.

make it a "mommy-n-me movie day" Get a bunch of kids movies and watch them with him, after a movie, maybe take a break to make some fun snacks together. Maybe throw some of his favorite games in the mix. Just stay home, and have a special day for you two to enjoy.

Don't know how you are with cooking, but try something basic like making cookies or a simple packet chocolate cake. kids love helping and getting their fingers into the mix. It's great fun to watch them cook, and eat the result too! pull out a jigsaw puzzle in the afternoon and sit with him and talk.
