A new league that let the drivers and R&D people decide what worked best and made the sport competitive again.

I don't see that happening. For them to split a number of the top drivers would have to go with them and sponsors would have to be willing to back them. then there's the television deals sponsor's are not going to pay to see there dollars go to a smaller company. Do not forget that Nascar owns a good portion of the tracks they race at and i would think they would deny them the right to use those tracks. So if they were to split it would hurt the sport and then we would end up like IRL, and CART, and we don't want that to happen.

Well, to be honest, the split has killed open wheel racing in the United States. I think it would probably do the same to NASCAR. If they were to get up to 60 or so full time teams, they may could do a National League, American League type system and hold 2 races a week at different locations. This would allow all the cars to race, and let all the tracks have plenty of dates.
But even that may not work. I like the way it is now just fine.

I do not think Nascar needs to split in order to become more competitive. It already is becoming more competitive and more popular each year. They also have very competitive R&D. I agree You don't see leaders pulling of ridiculous 4 lap leads anymore. You probably may never see anyone break the 7 championships record. Unless Jeff Gordon gets 4 more before retiring.

Yeah that worked well for IRL and CART didn't it. IRL has some of the best racing that no one sees.

competitive? Have you been watching the great finishes this year? Sheesh! What do you want? The 'good old days' when the winner won by 4 laps?

When you read all of the responses to your question it's obvious that the France family control a monopoly in the name of NASCAR. The last monopoly to be broken up was AT&T and that literally took an act of congress. That's not going to happen here because the government has bigger issues than a bunch of guys driving around in circles and they receive huge tax revinues as a result of NASCAR and anything contingent to NASCAR. Would I like to see it changed? Yes, but that won't happen as long as the big-dollar sponsors keep shoving truck loads of money up the France family's butt.

History repeats itself.NASCAR split in 1953.The results were NASCAR and ARCA.Though there were no superstars or earth shattering events.Today it is a good training/proving ground for NASCAR.
Could it happen yes. Will it happen Hard to say.I my self would keep watching stock car racing.

there are pros and cons on both sides, but I think to do the drivers justice, we have to go with this format. it is too hard to see what would happen to the teams and the quality of the races should it split.

Maybe, if you let nascar have their doggoned COT and start a separate league that used actual stock cars, but pros drive them.
