He wrote a speech about the Pledge once. When you read that, I think it's safe to assume he was a Christian.

It would seem that he was a christian based on this quote from a bio of him I found on the net:
In 2002 during the controversy of the phrase "Under God" in the US Pledge of Allegiance, a recording of a monologue he performed on his 1969 television show resurfaced. In the speech, he commented on what each line of the pledge symbolizes. At the end, he commented that "Wouldn't it be a pity if someone said that is a prayer and that would be eliminated from schools too?" With the pledge under attack as being "religious", he suddenly regained popularity among those who opposed the lawsuit.
We loved Red Skelton. And I always liked hearing him say, "Goodnight and may God bless."

From his biography he was into it, but the illness and death of his son really tested his faith.
Like all of us would do, Mr.Skelton tried many faith-healers after doctors gave up on his son.
But he died anyway, so while I never heard Mr. Skelton profess Christianity, he did always end his program with:
"May God Bless", remember?

He didn't leave due to content. He was canceled because he wanted a raise and his rating dropped. He had a fallout with CBS but it was not over content.
People were into the Smothers Brothers and Laugh In, not old comedians.

Yes I would say he was. He always closed his show with "God Bless". Of course that doesn't mean he was a Christian (follower of Christ) though. He had a high standard of morals. I really never thought about it until now. I always just assumed he was.

Yes, he was Christian. In fact, at the end of each of his television episodes, he would say, "good night and God bless."
The network demanded that he quit saying the "God bless" and he retorted that if he couldn't say it, there would not be a show at all.
