Im a 43 year old with unbearable pain in my hips all the way down to the calfs of my legs. I have been on hydrocodone for almost a year for other health problems which involve pain. My legs hurt almost 24/7. I did try to stop taking the pain pills and was given methodone for 1 week. it has now been one week since i took it and am back at the pain pills. Do you think the pain is withdrawl from methodone or is there something wrong with my hip and legs. It is so painful it hurts to walk, sit or even when I lay down. The pain is always there. I mean it hurts to the bone!! I noticed the pain when I got off the pills, thought it was from not taking them, than when I started taking them again I still have the pain??? What is goin on here..I do have a appointment to see doc. next week!!

This is an aching pain not a shooting pain. I think this makes a difference. Rarely do i feel any pains shooting down my legs!!

Sorry about the pain. I was concerned when I read this. Make sure you talk with your doctor, it might be something small and I don't want to scare you but my brother ( who was 53 years old ) had hip & leg pain & was being treated for arthritis in his hip. After several MRI"S It turned out to be Sarcoma, a type of cancer in his leg muscle. He lost his battle after 7 months so be sure to talk to your doctor about anything that seems out of the ordinary. I wish you the best.

Well, from experience I have the same thing. Have done the hydro thing and the methadone thing....It's a nerve problem and you probably didn't notice it as bad on the hydro's because you as they say were feeling no pain !! Well a sign of withdraws is leg cramps but not the type you are describing. It does make you feel like your going nuts because nothing is comfortable! Hang in there! If you go to the doctor they can get your meds adjusted to where they will help! There is no cure other than surgery so you will either take meds for the rest of your life or go through with the surgery! Try to remember there are others of us going through what you are !! I did not know whether I was nuts, addicted to the hydros, or having severe pain!! Turns out we aren't at all nuts! You just have to get your meds corrected and you'll feel better but never completely pain free! There will always be an uncomfortable sensation there! I hope this helped you some! IT IS A TRUE MEDICAL CONDITION! (sciatica)

It could be sciatica however please get a diagnosis, then a second, and third opinion before going through any intense treatment. A heating pad works the best while keeping your leg slightly elevated. You may consider doing some light yoga exercises, there are some stretches just for sciatica pain. I personally have suffered with scoliosis & sciatica since I was 8 years old. Without knowing what it was. Come to find out many years later, my scoliosis started progressing after being hit by a truck, and the sciatic nerve then became pinched. If I had not found out when I did a surgeon was going to remove the rod & 6 screws in my leg that had been there 15 years!

I had pulled a muscle in my butt and it formed a small painfull swelling in that area (Piriformis Muscle). It also put pressure on my Sciatic Nerve (trapping the nerve between 2 muscles). I had pain shooting from my lower back down the back of my left leg to my big toe. I could barely stand, walk, sit, laydown, sleep, get up or even staighten up for that matter for about a month. Thinking that the spine was causing the Sciatica problem and I could not afford any more Chyropractic Treatments. So I did similar to what they did in the old days (Dr's used to put people in Traction in a hospital bed) and stretched my spine and neck with 2 simple ropes and the use of my bedroom door and a door stopper under the halfway opened door. I also was suffering from Fibromyalgia for the past 12 years. Pain all over my body was the usual for me. Thinking that as I hang from these ropes draped over the top edge of the door my spine and neck vertebrae will be pulled apart and finally grow apart with time, untrapping the nerves. I also asked myself if this will cause my muscles and ligaments to form scar tissue and also form inflamation, squeezing the nerves of my spine even more. This swelling could squeeze or trap all the nerves coming from my lower spine and mid back and neck area. To avoid this happening I applied Teatree Oil 2 times daily to my injured butt and from my tail bone up my spine to about 1 inch above the spine where my skull starts and over all my shoulders and chest area. Teetree oil is a Powerful Natural Antibiotic and a Natural Antinflamatory (about $10 to $12 a bottle). In 4 days I was pain free. The Scyatica gone. The lump in my butt muscle gone. The Fibromyalgia pains with severe headaches (migraines) gone. I still continue this treatment which take only a few minutes a day to stretch. Do not apply the Teatree Oil for more than 2 weeks in any duration. Give a 2 week break and apply again for 2 weeks. Apply the Teatree Oil twice a month after that, as you keep doing the stretching (stretch once when you arise and once just before you retire). Get into bed immediately to let your spine heal in an open position. This method should repair most all back and neck problems naturally. Not many expences involved either.
Thank you for asking!
This may seem confusing.
You may write me for more information!

This very much sounds like sciatica pain. the pain is not from stopping the drugs. This is a nerve problem that affects the muscles as well.
The best treatment to stop this pain is deep therapy massage. you will feel better after the first massage. You may have to do this on a regular basis. I find there is far more pain relief in physical therapy then with drugs.
Another treatment is to see a chiropractor. They specialize in sciatic treatment. I've enclosed a link where you can find a chiropractor in your area.

You probably have a pinched nerve in your back, which causes excrutiating pain from your hip to your feet. I have the same problem and I have been on Vicodin and percocet for over 2yrs for this problem.I have more then one herniated disc and yes it is hard to walk, stand sit or lay and to bend over impossible.I hope you end up seeing a specialist, sometimes a chiropracter can help if it's not to severe. I have been there and physical theropy, epidural steriod injections non of which helped. So I wish you luck and pray you have a darn good Doctor.

have you been diagnosed with sciatica? If the pain pills aren't working you need to see a pain management doctor. Have you considered having surgery? it may be an option. good luck.
