They were terrorized as children with stories of hell and images of a man being crucified. You try laughing at yourself with that kind of stuff echoing around in your head. Those poor little suckers....

Actually, from the christians I know and the non-Christians I know, the ability to laugh or to be totally serious has NOTHING to do with being a Christian. I've met Christians who laugh at themselves and are very funny, while I've met some non-Christians and atheists who make pious judgmental Christians seem quite open minded. So, this is a human trait, not a religious trait.

No,I have a pretty good sense of humor. I think fundies can be like that,but not mainstream Christians. Personally,I think it's the other way around. Atheists get VERY uptight when you try to kid them. But then,since they aren't the product of Intelligent Design I guess it makes a feller pretty sensitive to teasing.

It is hard....sometimes we have to take a step back and realize it's funny....It's not intentional but it happens when we get on the same track for so long and are desperately in need of a break. And we do need to do it more often.. (laugh that is).. :-}

I don't think all Christians are this way. Really, I've seen several that are quite able and that do laugh at themselves. We really all should be able to laugh at ourselves.

I laugh a lot, however not at the expense of someone else. I enjoy God and He has a sense of humor too, I think.

A friend of mine has a tag line that I love:
"Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused."
I think that's a good philosophy for everybody, not just for those of us who are Christians.

It isn't. I laugh at myself so often I have a permanent stomach-ache! Shows how much you know. However, I don't laugh at my beliefs if that's what you were talking about.
