Check out Federal Student Aid Web Site or FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

I suggest you explore all federal funding and grant options at the Federal Student Aid website http://federalstudentaid.ed.gov/

You may also want to read the Handbook of the Pell Grant -- this is an 86 page document that contains everything about the grant
http://ifap.ed.gov/sfahandbooks/attachments/0203Vo3MasterFile.pdf

Or you can call the Federal Student Aid Information Center http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/gtepfpg.pdf at 1-800-433-3243 and ask them if there are any programs for you

Aside from FAFSA http://www.fafsa.ed.gov and Pell Grant http://www.ed.gov/programs/fpg/index.html , you may want to explore private foundation grants

Also check out Fastweb http://www.fastweb.com

For private grants, you may want to check the Foundation Center's Foundation Grants for Individuals Online http://gtionline.fdncenter.org . It's a subscription based website ($9.95 per month) and their opening blurb says that the database is ideal for "students, artists, academic researchers, libraries and financial aid offices." You may be able to find grants from private foundations.

Start with the FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
Be sure you're on the right website www.fafsa.ed.gov You are right, FAFSA.com charges you!!! The first word in FAFSA is FREE so don't pay for this free service.

Then check out the College Board's FAST web
www.fastweb.com There are no fees.
Contact your college financial aid office to find out if there are
state grants in your state, if if so, find out if you need to file additional paperwork for the FAFSA. Some states offer grants with minimum grade point averages, so you might need to supply that information from your high school.

Then ask your financial aid office if there are any other university grants available. Good luck!

The best place to go to is the actual government website itself. It is called the FAFSA form. It needs to be completed each year as close to January 1 as you can get for the upcoming fall semester until you graduate. I have included some more resources that should help. Good luck!

File your FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov. All others will charge you because they are not the real FAFSA filing site.
