Probably because society spends so much time trying to scare us all half to death. It's the only way to control us. Love doesn't control, love sets us free. It's a learned behavior and takes great strength to break the cycle.

I don't think it is that simple. You speak as if fear were always a bad thing. It isn't. Fear is a powerful motivator.
For example, I am afraid of heights. This fear is healthy for me in some ways, as I am unable to fly. My fear of heights keeps me firmly on the ground where I belong.
The true opposite of love is selfishness. And selfishness is something we could all do without.

Because fear is just so much easier for the human heart and mind to grasp and hold on to than love. Fear takes no effort or work... just keep a closed mind and refuse to even consider anything that doesn't agree with our own ideas. Ahh, fear is so simple.
It's a shame.

It's waht people are used to or they haven't made the decision to attempt living in a different way than what they have become accustomed to. My life has dramatically improved since I've begun trying to live with more love and less fear. Habit developed from years are hard to bend into new shapes. But, time's on my side.

We dont choose fear. It is just that the flip side of love is fear. Love is the mother of all fears. Love makes us fear for something or someone we love. The solution is to trust God when you love.

Many people refuse to walk in the light since they are afraid of doing it alone. People want to safguard their own life at any cost , even at the risk of others but we learn from the gospel that the greatest commandment is to love another and any fear is taken out the equation completely.

To quote FDR "The only thing to fear is fear itself." As to love, it is an unreasoned emotion that causes many to do what they shouldn't, some to do what they really don't want to do, and a few who can give it fully and without strings--I have yet to see anything in Christianity or Islam that didn't have strings attached..

1Jo 4:18 There is no [fear] in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. Jud 1:23 And others save with [fear], pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh. Rev 19:5 And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that [fear] him, both small and great. Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to [fear]; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

I'm going to guess that you see "love" as religion and "fear" as a lack thereof. Assuming that's your point, don't you think religion tries to control people with fear? "Do this or you're going to hell." That kind of thing.
I would ask why people choose mythology and delusion over intelligence and logic.
