Here’s my first ever posted question.
In the last 20 years or so I have learned many things about faith, and world religions.

One thing I have noticed is especially when it comes to debate and apologetics, that non-believers always seem just as militant as believers. I would think that so many of those people who are “enlightened” would take a less evangelical-like approach to their own non-belief system.

Is it that Non-Believers and Faith haters both are trying to convert people to their belief stricture? Just like evangelical Christians? Why then if they have all this wisdom and knowledge of the universe why do they lower themselves to levels of those that they dislike.

I guess my question was unclear to some people. Or some poeple may have overlooked it as a means to further their own agendas.

I was asking why Non-believers act so fundie like when they argue against Faith?

That is more clear I would think. hehe

Welcome to the wacky world of R&S!!

There are fundies on BOTH sides of every issue. It's not a matter of facts, it's a matter of perspective and the interpretation of said facts.

If you went to a clothing store and saw to identical shirts one in a package and one that has been handled by all the people which one would you buy?

That is the answer! Christians don't Package the Word of God right. They let it be handled by others and then later the non-believers see these horrible acts from the church on the news and you have conflict.

Other times people do the "Education" talks with non-believers and destroy the message.

Well, I say we follow the one and ONLY example ever recorded in history. The example of Jesus. He loved the non-believers and was patient with them as he took his time to show them the right way.

Your Faith is there are you going to use it for the Greater works that Jesus mentioned?

They have a lot in common, both groups are a bit rabid. Actually, we don't get real atheists in this section, they go to sections they have interests in, not here. What we get here is a bunch of bashers and trolls crying out for attention. The christian fundies are judgmental hypocrites, the rabid athesits are just just bashers and trolls showing even more intolerance than the fundies. Both should be ignored and avoided.

I think the perceived militance comes when non christians feel, and rightfully so, that a certain very vocal group is attempting to legislate their own version of morality into our laws and our kids' schools.
PS... I am a believer. I just don't believe the same things you do.

This is without doubt the most thoughtful question I have read in here, EVER.

Truly enlightened people, whether believers or non-believers do not whack others over the head in order to get them to "join" their spiritual path.

The aggressive desire to "convert" others is evidence of the lack of the very truth they claim to possess.

Yeah, I'd tend to agree to that. It's almost as if some of us were trying to convince Christians and other religious ones that we were right... which is what I believe, but hey, to each his/ her own! Can't say I've exatcly been a role-model for anybody either, though.

They are no more enlightened than the people they are fighting. Which is why I don't evangelize my religion. If people want to know, I'll tell them. Otherwise, it's just my religion, not the "right path" for everyone.

I'd just like to invite people to have an open mind, and explore life's mysteries, and try to get people to stop living their lives trying to avoid being bad in some God's eyes, and rather be proud of who they are.

Defining ones self as a non-believer is a belief? What a truly enlightened thought process you must have.

We are all human beings and none of us are perfect. Some of us have short fuses, some can be a little intolerant etc..and it comes out before we can stop it..some do it on purpose tho.
Some of us strive to do better tho.
