My girlfriend and I recently moved into an apartment together. She is a smoker, and always smokes inside. I love the smell of smoke, and am thinking about starting myself. She continues to tell me that I shouldn't, but my logic is this: If breathing in my girlfriend's secondhand smoke is more dangerous than inhaling smoke through the filter of a cigarette, then, as long as I am exposed to her smoke, what is the harm in taking up smoking myself?

If you love her GET HER TO QUIT FOR GODS SAKE!

Not only is smoking incredibly dangerous for the both of you, it's a huge waste of money. My mother, who smokes a pack a day, goes through 1800 dollars a year on cigarettes. 1800 dollars. We could buy a nice used car for that.

Think about it. It's wasteful, and it's poison. Don't start, and if you really love her, help her quit.

Wow, that's like the most lopsided theory I've ever heard. I wouldn't start. You should make her smoke in the laundry room, in a room with a window. You will still smell the smoke, but a lot of it will go out the window.

No way. Kissing a smoker is like kissing an ashtray. Not attractive to me in the slightest. If you're just holding the cigarettes and not smoking them then no big deal.

This is your choice, of course... but to answer you question...

What is the harm?

If you start smoking cigarettes regularly, you are guaranteed to regret it some day.

(Your girlfriend already knows this... she learned it the hard way.)

as soon as you begin that expensive habit, you'll be wishing you hadnt. nearly everyone who smokes wants to quit but cant because of the adiction. why the hell would you want to pick up a bad habit when you can easily avoid it.
