well they're ALMOST the same, but not quite. the fact that one is "organisms" that cause disease, means they must be an organism. but, of course our year 10 science lessons told us that viruses are not living organisms (they do not satisfy all of MRS GREN - movement, respiration, sensitivity, growth, reproduction, excretion and nutrition), whereas viruses are still pathogenic AGENTS. pathogenic means causes disease, but pathogenis agent just means any substance or agent that can cause disease - whereas the first opiton specifies only those agents that are classed as organisms too.
