well, they aren't like humans so they wont really understand, so you can't just say it expecting them to listen, you have to show them, when they do something bad, say 'bad boy/girl' and maybe give them a LIGHT swat on the nose, probably will take a couple of times for them to finally learn but i think it works

- wth? actually, i have done training of pets plenty of times before and i found it can be useful to swat them, though it doesn't seem friendly, it works, and hence the word 'light' that i put, of course your not going to slap the dog, just put your finger to their nose, they'll get the point... and i do understand that puppies are new to training, so thats why you need to teach them right from wrong, nothing will learn just by words, you have to show them

You have to teach them commands.. They aren't going to sit and listen to a conversation or a story.. They are listening for words they recognize.. If you are consistently using the same commands and showing them what you mean, they will learn what the words mean and what you want them to do. You have to show them. They are like little furry people from another land, who can't even talk, but they watch and learn thru repetition, what the heck you are trying to relay to them. It's up to you, the person, to put the commands with the action, so that they can understand.

Edit : Only an fool would swat a puppy on the nose trying to teach them something. Since when does anyone or anything learn, by being swatted? NEVER. Especially a puppy who knows nothing at all about what someone is trying to teach them.. Swatting is best kept for people with stupid ideas about training puppies...

You need to keep repeating and give treats when it does what you want them to do. If its just a puppy it will get easily distracted and take longer for it to listen to you, but that's just normal.

enroll yourself in a dog training school. Wait until the puppy is at least 6 months old, let him enjoy his puppyhood

They don't know what your saying until their older and the vocal repetition starts working as they put the action you want to the sound you make.

treats, treats, treats.... Every time the puppy does good treat him. All animals respond to getting treats; even shasrks and whales.

You could put a treat infront of your own face. Tell him your command, while he is looking at you, and when he does it, give him the treat!!
