I had been drinking alot the night before and the next morning I had to potty like you wouldn't believe. So I went upstairs and did my business and guess what - the toilet didn't work. So I just left his house without saying a word. Was that the correct way to handle it?

Well, if he is going to have overnight guests and doesn't bother to tell you the toilet doesn't work or doesn't at least put a sign on it-----then he deserves a surprise.
