i was walking down my street with my dog, she is rather small about 25 lbs. when 2 huge mastifs came charging and barking at us. my first instinct was to lets my dog off her leash and let her make a run for it but i knew she was slower then the other dogs. i stood infront of her and yelled at the approaching dogs. when they came the ignored me and went right after my dog, i began screaming and kicking the other 2 dogs but they wouldn't let down. meanwhile my little dog was yelping and trying to fight back, i pulled the bigger ones ears and twisted them and that held him back for a second. finally the owner of the dogs came out and called off his dogs, my dog was fine she was just a little shaken. i was just wondering what i should do if anything like that happens again?

Well, it would be hard with two dogs attacking, but if you pull on a hind leg of the aggressing dog, he can't bite, or catch his balance, AND it keeps YOU safe, as he can't turn to bite you..
Just grab a hind leg and lift a bit as you pull it..
I use to have my kids carry a small can of the cheapest hairspray..works like a charm, and no one gets hurt..Must be aerosol, not the pump spritz type..The cheaper, the better, as it is the stinkiest..

You should report the dogs to Animal Control. Luckily, your dog is all right, but those dogs should not be loose and free to come after someone like that. There was a case a few years ago where two mastiffs killed a woman so imagine if they came after a child at some point. Reporting them will hopefully keep them from being free to hurt anyone, whether it's a dog or a person. Also, I like the walking stick idea. I do that myself with my dogs. I've never had to use it but it's nice to have with you if you need it.

I think you did the best you could under the circumstances. You protected your dog and did not get bit in the scuffle. In your case I think you need to get the owner of the two dogs to take responsibility and control his dogs. I'm sure there is an ordinance of some sort and by some jurisdiction that covers your area. You have the owners address and this person should be reported. I'd be real tough about it and keep reporting this person until some action is taken and the dogs are controlled.

Sadly, because no one was seriously injured or killed, there isn't much you can do. I know it's horrible, because those dogs could have gone after a child instead of you & your dog, but that's how the system works.
I suggest you go ahead and call now, and report those two dogs as vicious and mention the incident. (Make sure you say "vicious") If this happens again, then you can report it again. In most states, a vicious dog needs to be registered and insured.

Call the cops or humane society, then you will have documentation of it happeneing. You dog could have internal injuries you aren't aware of. I think you should still contact authorities on this one now and then take your dog to the vet to have him check her over for any possible internal injuries. You shoudl also make sure his dogs vaccinations are up to date as well as your dogs vaccs. In the future, call the authorities right away- it is not legal to have your dogs running at large like that, especially BIG dogs and the owner probably would have been fined as well.

What? of course he has no suited to annoy you!! call the police!! they'll supply up this right this moment. You have been interior the incorrect, yet until this guy has some documentation, some thing i might easily basically supply him a brilliant **** you. BTW why have been you disillusioned?? Why are you calling the humane society? Now, approximately your canines. on condition that he has bitten now, some factors might evaluate him a risky canines, the place you're able to desire to pay a each year high-quality and save him contained a undeniable way. If it has no longer long gone this some distance, for the sake fo your canines, i might see a behaviorist right this moment!!! that's unacceptable to your canines to "hate" something and muzzling him is basically making the concern worse.

I heard the best thing is to carry an umbrella, weird I know, but they are good because it pops open and puts a good distance between you and the other dogs and kind of acts like a shield.
Maybe a whistle or something that has a high pitch to it will scare them away. I've heard that you are suppose to put yourself in between the dogs because they won't have direct access to yours.
I know it's definitely a scary situation because we had a random dog walk up to us while we were walking ours and I screamed no at the dog hoping to keep it away.

Well first you need to report the dogs to your local humane society, dog catcher, police department, a local authority. If these dogs were not on leashes they were in violation of most city laws. Most cities have leash laws. They need to be turned in because they could very well attack a child or a much smaller dog or cat and kill it. Generally a Mastiff is a gentle dog so for those to attack your dog is unusual for them and dangerous for the neighborhood if they are left to roam it freely.

First off you did the right thing by defending your dog. What I do with my dog is carry around a tennis ball and or a sqeeky toy so that if a dog is trying to get yours, gain its attention by sqeeking that toy and throwing it or rolling that tennis ball down the street. Hope this works. This way you are in no way able to be challenged for a law suit.

A lady came into my work one time and she bought apple bitter spray to carry with her at the dog parks. Her dog got attacked and the dog actually bit her show dogs testicals and tore them. I know apple bitter is used as a deterent for dogs for chewing and what not. I am not sure if it would work if you sprayed them in the face but it's worth a shot.
