good question. to add:
deuteronomy 18:21-22 says, "you may say to yourselves, "how can we know when a message has not been spoken by the lord?" if what a prophet proclaims in the name of the lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the lord has not spoken. that prophet has spoken presumptuously. don't be afraid of him."
so.. did joseph smith ever claim "in the name of the lord" that something would happen when it did not? yes - many times in fact.

Hello, DougDoug: Jesus says He will send us prophets, but there will be false ones, ¨deceiving the very elect, if possible¨So the thing to do is to check out the prophet´s message with Scripture.
Isaiah 8:20 says: ¨To the Law and the prophets, if they speak not according to this word, there is no light in them.¨
So, be careful as people attempt to convince you with their charismatic speech or fast-flowing Bible texts. If you have not studied the Bible, I suggest you start now. I´ve personally read ten different Bible translations cover to cover, so can spot a false prophet pretty fast. When I read the Book of Mormon about 30 years ago, it scared me and convinced me that there is a devil. But it does not stop here! Just like the religious system in Christ´s day did not understand coming events and crucified their Lord and Savior, today all major religions are preparing the way for Antichrist.
If you were to read the Bible cover to cover, Doug, you would find one part that tells you you will not be able to understand it until the end of the days. Why, because God knew we would fall to error, so He had a remedy, and it takes a Scripture ¨key¨to unlock it. Check it out at www.revelado.org/revelado.org. You will be amazed at the answers it gives, including the identity of The Abomination of Desolation (Antichrist) that Jesus warned us of.
Blessings, One-Way

I am sorry Doug Doug,
I am not familiar with that passage in the Bible. (honest answer) I consider myself relatively well versed on the Bible. Could you elaborate as to where in the Bible I might find that passage?
I read about prophets (both real and false) and people having the gift of prophecy throughout the Bible.
I am a Christian and not a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon).

Where did the Bible say that? What about the prophet Paul and the prophet Timothy?
What about the prophet John?

Where does the Bible say that?
If you believe there will be no more prophets after Jesus, then what is the Book of Revelation?

People add and take away from the bible all of the time. It's human nature to pick and choose and add things to your liking. I don't see the point of doing that. If you don't like a religion and feel that you have to add things to take things away from it to make you happy, then perhaps you shouldn't be a christian.
