I do, it actually is a time period between gen 1:1 and 1:2 . It states that in the beginning God created heaven and earth, period. There is no commitment as to when that was. It was in this "gap time" that satan tried to take over heaven, and god's "putting down" ( "katabole", Strong's 2598) of satans rebellion was accomplished by a world wide flood (not Noah's) . That is how the earth BECAME formless and empty.
There are times when the bible eludes to this is when it says things like " I will utter things that have been hidden since the foundation (katabole) of the world". But some quasi proof of this gap time is in the book of Job chapter forty it describes an animal called behemoth, that could only be a dinosaur and Job and others lived at that time. You would be rightly be thinking that if there is a whole book in the bible that happened in the gap time , how is this being kept hidden (secret)? Well when you look up the word Behemoth in the Strong's it doesn't have a translation . Some say it is a hippo or an elephant. But from the description given that notion is patently absurd. Well guys that is it in a nutshell . Do with it what you will , and am sure you will do just that.

From what I understand, the Gap Theory tries to explain what happened between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2.
Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."
Genesis 1:2: "Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters."
The theory says that God created a primitive earth and that it was peopled with a pre-Adamic human-like race, dinosaurs, and all the prehistoric life we see now as fossils.
Then there was some type of major cataclysm that destroyed the world and all forms of life, and then God had to come back and "re-create" the world, which we have the account of in Genesis. That's why it talks about the world being covered by water--as a result of this cataclysm. Then God later placed Adam and Eve as the first people on the newly prepared Earth.
Interesting theory.

not sure if you're asking ABOUT it but i'll try to explain anyway- the gap theory is the view that there was a vast period of time between when God created the earth and when he created life on the earth. i find it amazing how much some bible teachers try to fit between genesis 1:1 and 1:2.
don’t you think that if something important had occurred between the two verses God would have told us so? i don't think God wants us to have to speculate about such important events..so, what took place between genesis 1:1 and 1:2? absolutely nothing! genesis 1:1 tells us that God created the heavens and the earth. genesis 1:2 informs us that when he first created the earth, it was formless, empty, and dark.

Like others have said, it is the idea that there is a large period of time omitted from the bible between the first two verses of Genesis. Unfortunately, there are a lot of reasons this does not make sense biblically, much less scientifically.

What is the Gap Theory? Is that intentionally misleading? Are you referring to the "missing link" in the Theory of Evolution?
