The police generally do a lot of good and are vital to our society. However, they never stop you and ask how you're doing so whenever people encounter cops it's usually a poor experience.
If you want to be a cop, go for it. Most cops I know tend to have a fulfilling career of helping people.

I think cops do a wonderful duty to society! The reputation they have, seems to come from the experience people have with them. I've been pulled over a couple of times in my car (no I was not driving drunk or anything reckless like that), and the cops were very obnoxious. Other people who I have talked to about it feel the same way. You may do something wrong and the police must intervene, but you should also be treated with respect instead of attitude.
I don't have any hatred toward cops, they're doing their job and deserve support for it! Criminals should not hate police because of what they do, though. They do the crime, they get caught, hey...their bad! TV seems to have a good impact in my opinion as they show them in real situations as real people.
No one should hate cops or be disrespectful. Even though you don't want one driving on the road behind you, you know you can feel a bit safer knowing they're there. And lets face it ladies...men in uniform are HOT!!!! lol

The majority of people support the Police. What you're hearing is responses from individuals who have had a bad dealing with an Officer, or just don't know any better because of their upbringing. Some people just like to see they're feelings in print. There's a lot of people I can't stand, and I definitely can't stand an obnoxious Police Officer, but I do not judge all by the actions of a few. I hope that answers your question.

I guess I am very partial to law enforcement. I have an uncle who is a police officer in Brooklyn New York. I am a law enforcement officer in Kansas City. Most of what we hear about police officers in the news is bad, because that is what the news wants to relate to the public. Considering all the officers in the United States, we hear of only a few who are not good. Law Enforcement is an honorable profession. We who enter this profession do not do it for the money. We love our jobs. For us, it is a calling. Just remember, for every one bad story we see on the news, or hear from a friend, there are thousands of strories from the day to day life of those who are good.

You only get the haters because it is anonymous. They have an axe to grind and possibly a bit of a criminal past. There are plenty of posters that are positive but let's face it, certain ones draw attention on purpose and pizz you off.
Remember, they don't know you and may be a friend to you but in this forum and venue, hatred runs wild because it can. Just one of those little freedom some people fight for. I have started reading the questions and some of the answers before I respond, because why would I want an anonymous person to pizz me off. Don't need that crap.

I appreciate the police. It just seems it differs for everyone. My brother used to be best friends with all of the police in my town. Now he is in jail. I don't think he likes them anymore. Just the other day, the police helped my family by putting my brother behind bars. They also helped me feel better during a very stressful time. They were very kind to me. So, thank you for all you do. There are still some of us out there that like you. Don't pay attention to those that don't. They are just mad about a speeding ticket or because they got caught breaking the law.

YES! Police officers have one of the hardest, most thankless job around, I love everyone of them!
On My Watch Tonight
I come from an Island
In the Carolina sand
Where I was broke down,
Built up and reborn a fighting man
My blood runs red,
white and blue
I’ll brave the cold,
the rain, the pain
and the bullets
so you don’t have to
Don’t worry about me;
I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe
on my watch tonight
It’s a long, long way from that island
And a long way from home
With the thought of you standing behind me
I could never be alone
There’s a promise
I need you to make
While I’m gone you take care of the love
And I’ll deal with the hate
Don’t worry about me;
I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe
on my watch tonight
Don’t worry about me;
I’ll be all right
Just care for your children and sleep tight
I’ll keep you safe
on my watch tonight

In times past I've met men and women who are officers of the law. Generally I would meet them in the gym and it was not until after several months would they tell me, what their profession.
Overall, I think you and other officers are like any groups of individuals. You have your good ones and the bad ones; who make it hard on all.
Its just too bad that police officers, as an occupational hazard; have to deal with the worst in society. Thereby creating a mental challenge, in which many officers have to paramount; otherwise they become a burden, rather than the heroes we respect.

The police are very underrated. They do more good than most other people know. I love my job and conduct myself with as much respect for other people as possible.
