I adopted a puppy (a Tennessee Treeing Mountain Cur) to help my other dog (that I also adopted) come out of her shell however the new puppy is extremely dominant and destructive. She tears up bags of charcoal, potting soil, diggs up the yard chews up shoes she even chewed a hole in my wall she went almost clean through it. Not one day goes by that she doesnt destroy something. On top of that my other dog and my cat are always covered in sores from my puppies constant need to "play" with them. Ive tried telling her no putting her in a kennel hideing treats around the house to amuse her I cant seem to get a leg up on this dog..I know hunting dogs are different than normal dogs and If I'd have known her breed I wouldnt have taken her but shes here and we love her. So I need to find a happy medium between her need to hunt and my need not to have a torn up home and yard.

Maybe I should have been more clear. My puppy was only 3 moths old when we got her this is NOT a prexisting condition from what Im told her problems are common in hunting dogs. We got her because we were told she would help our other dog out. Our other dog is a 1 year old American Bulldog who was neglected and faught pits. Our Mountain Cur (the puppy) tears up everything from bags of charcoal to shoes, she even chewed a hole almost clean through my wall. Im looking for people who have or have had mountain curs or similar dogs to help me out. I should also mention that my puppy is very dominant, and if she wouldnt have gotten ahome that day she would've been put down. I dont work Im a stay home mom so shes not lonely . Help me Help her to be a happy dog. For those of you worried about a "fighting dog" in the house with other dogs and a chlid let me assure you that my cat is meaner than my AB will ever be and these are not my first dogs either please dont treat me like Im dumb.

Exercising the puppy regularly will do a great deal. Any dog that is destructive needs an outlet such as exercising. Plus you have a puppy who will bite for play, because they are teething and many other things.
Try to exercise the dog more, we have a puppy right now and she loves to bite and pee all over everything but she doesn't tear anything up and we exercise her as much as possible... Good luck!

SHE IS BORED! She needs more exercise, a lot more.
You must always research a dog breed BEFORE bringing the dog home. It is O.K. if you have nothing to do but train the dogs 24/7. But most people have to work.
You don't say how old she is.......It is obvious she has never had any training and has learned a lot of bad habits. I could not tolerate it myself. I feel badly for the poor dog. It is a sin to treat a animal like that. It just takes an incredible amount of time to undo everything and re train her.
Good Luck to you. I made sure I researched my dogs. All of us have experienced what you are going thru right now. It will never happen to me again. My boys are perfect for me. I wish you could return her or find her a good home. You don't get another dog to bring your present dog out of being shy or withdrawn.
EDIT: PLEASE don't listen to "JAYBIRD". Do not hit your dogs. Do not hit anything that breathes. She should be turned in to animal cruelty for that. You never hit anything or anyone. You will create a monster for sure if you start hitting that poor, confused dog.....

Yep, I see the project. you got a domestic dog Mill canines. each and each and every of the doggies in puppy shops are from puppy generators or BYB's. Their moms and dads are very risky and are under no circumstances well being examined, so your puppy will be extremely risky. for sure the puppy keep will no longer say some thing about it, they merely choose the money. doggies from domestic dog generators are typically under no circumstances dealt with and do not get any interest. And even as they do see human beings, it really is consistently even as they are cleansing out their cages by spraying a hose, and they don't even worry taking the canines out first. you got a puppy that has and ought to have many well being and temperament issues. She's probable merely scared once you %. her up. supply her treats, lie on the floor close to her. enable her come to you and enable her understand that you aren't any more going to harm her. She'll come round.

Since you also indicate that you have problems with your first dog "help come out of her shell", you need to attend obedience classes and learn about dog behavior. It is not unusual at all for a puppy to be as active as you describe and they are easy to control once you learn about dog behavior and training techniques. I'm not going to give you any one shot answers as this will not help you correct behavior down the line. I'm sure you know not to hit the dog as one answerer suggested. You should never ever do anything to a dog that will cause it to fear you.

Well, if i were you, i would go to www.yahoo.com and search "Iams Dog Breed Selector". What you click on should take you to iams.comto a survey. Just answer some questions, and it will come out with the top dog breed for you. (If you don't like the top breed, then you can go down the list to see if you find one you like) When you get your top results, copy and paste your results on notepad or somthing. (This is so when you go to iams dog breed guide, youll what breed to look for. Then, go to yahoo.com and search "Iamsdog breed guide" Once there, with your list of breeds you can go down the list and find the correctbreed for you.

Enroll your dog in a training program. When they say hunting dogs need exercise, they weren't lying. Take her for walks. Try teaching her basic commands like "sit", "stay", ect.
Um, no prizes out for guessing why she was in the pound.

Try this spray I have for my new shoes, my dog knows better but she can't help it when it is my new shoes so I spray this spray on them but you may want to spray it on your dogs esp. the dog that is a mess around his nose & mouth area so he won't touch anything because he will always be smelling it. It is harmless but I can't remember the name of it. sry it is in a white bottle with colored letters...I think green
