I tend to be a fainter when it comes to needles, blood etc. I have a tat all designed that I've wanted to get forever, and now I'm actually getting around to having it done, I'm a little worried about the whole fainting thing. What if I faint half way through? Anyone have an experience they can share?

In addition to the above:

Bring a (supportive) friend. They can distract you and help you keep your mind off what's going on. Your thinking about the needles et al is the problem, so keeping your mind off of it helps. Even if you don't talk & just pay attention, it will help.

You won't see the needle unless you want to, and ditto for the blood. Depending on the location, in fact, you might have to go out of your way to see anything.

Although a needle is used, it's not often visible as such, and the sensation is more like scratching a sunburn or getting an electric shock than anything else. I *hate* getting shots, but tattoos are just annoying in sensation.

Blood tends to show up in limited amounts, although for redheads it can be a bit more.

I'd say let the artist know your concerns. They've likely dealt with this many times before, and will be fine with you taking breaks, getting a sip of ice water (helps some folks), perhaps distracting you with their own talk, and so on.

Fainting actually isn't that common, especially when you follow the above and the other advice given. Best of luck!

Im in the same boat as you with the whole needels issue. i hate hypos and getting my blood drawn. funny thing is when i got my 1st tat i was fine. ive got 5 now and havent fainted once. ive seen people faint when ive been getting worked on though. man is it funny! mainly because the ppl that have fainted were big muscley dudes. just eat a good meal a couple hours before you go in, if you think youll need to bring a water bottle with you go ahead. maby some gum that way you can get some easy sugar when your getting worked on. breathe normaly when your artist is tatting you. and have fun, you should be fine. hope this helps.

My husband is a tattoo artist ..People faint and pass out ALL time...Usually due to low blood sugar..make sure you eat before and carry some sort of sugar and or soda with you when you get tattooed..Most reputable shops will be CPR certified..so make sure you look for that when picking a shop..Good luck and dont let that stop you from getting tattooed..

maximum tattoo shops require that previously you get a tattoo you sign a waiver pointing out that A) you have eaten in the final 3 hours B) you're no longer on any prescription blood thinners and you do not have a blood subject (hemophilia) C) you're no longer under the impression of alcohol or on any illicit drugs All of those issues are for the keep to cover themselves, whether it relatively is a stable thought to have relatively eaten, no longer taken blood thinning meds (which contains aspirin), no longer been ingesting alcohol and to be properly hydrated. additionally some human beings have subject concerns with needles and it relatively is totally too hassle-free to psyche your self out on the subject of the noise of the tattoo gun. i stumble on that it relatively is far less complicated to observe the tattoo artist paintings, yet some human beings think of it relatively is lots extra useful to concentration on something else totally. deliver your ipod, deliver something to concentration on. in case you get gentle-headed or dizzy ask for a ruin. in case you smoke cigarettes, deliver a p.c... Take cigarette breaks. in case you do no longer smoke, ask for breaks to drink water or juice and walk around slightly. don't sense undesirable. i've got prevalent very great, burly adult adult males that have fainted or have not been waiting to end their tattoos in one placing, particularly the in the arm between the armpit and the shoulder.

Make sure the let the tattooist know about this before they start. They want to make sure you are comfortable and they want to know about any medical problems or fainting you may have. They want to keep things safe for both you and them. *smile* I have epilepsy so i take meds before, and with me, and I let them know if I start feeling wierd. Also helps I take my boyfriend with me and he knows what to do. Also, if you feel they are not comfy with the situation, find another tattoist.

make sure that you speak with your artist about this. you could very well be fine but it would be a good thing that they be informed. also, bring some chocolate or mountain dew with you. if you tend to pass out from low sugar, this will help you to feel better.

i have 2 tatoos, i didn't feel the like faiting at all, but thats me....
i suggest that you just don't look at the needle while its on your skin, if you wanna take a peek at your tattoo in the process, look at it white the artist is getting more ink on the needle. or when he/she is whiping off the ink&blood from ur skin
