I am staying with a friends of a friends dog for the weekend. He's a jack Russel. I had one for 9 years and loved him to bits, but he died of cancer. So i agreed. I brought the dog home, he has been barking ever since. He barks when I sneeze, when I flush, when I walk around. It's nuts. I figured he's home sick. This morning i started to vacuum, he started to attack the machine, so i turned it off took him by his harness and was going to put him in the yard. He bit me. I yelled at him! And now ever since if i go near him he charges me and tries to bite me again. What do I do?

Hi, this has become a big problem, not an easy solution. He doesn't trust you anymore and is exhibiting fear aggression toward you. Don't try to touch him with your hands, he'll most likely succeed in biting you. You probably can't leave him outside, JR's are diggers and he could dig his way out of the yard while you're responsible for him. Hopefully you have a room in your house you can keep him in & just tune out the barking. If you have a baby gate put that between you and JR. If you approach him don't look him in the eyes, dogs see that as a threat. Yawn and blink your eyes, turn your head away...you're showing disinterest and behavior that he would not find threatening. Turn your back to him, sit down slowly, let him come to you...don't try to grab him or pet him ...let him get comfortable around you again.

I think you should call your friends and let them know about the problems you are having, they should return and take him off your hands.

I feel your pain....literally! Years ago, I dog sat for a neighbor and was holding the little canine as my neighbors were leaving for their camping trip. Without reason, he bit me on the lip and then bit my hand. My neighbor had to pull him off me. Then they went on their vacation anyway! As they drove down the driveway, I was bleeding!

Do the best you can. It is only for the weekend. Try using wieners to get back in the dog's good graces. That's what I did. Use treats to do what you need to do in order to care for the little "nipper". Let your friends know what happened and tell them it may be a good idea next time if you got to know the dog better first before they left on their "escape". If you prefer not to help them out again, I don't blame you!!!
Good luck and God Bless!

If the canines isn't human aggressive, in spite of the indisputable fact that it really is canines aggressive, per chance being in one of those public position, the owner became guarding antagonistic to a unique canines showing up. even as canines exhibit aggressive habit, the owner ought to finally end up being bitten merely from each and each and every of the chaos. it type of feels to me, to be a preventive degree, and the muzzle helps the owner no longer to be overly worried or worrying about the canines accessible movements. If it helps the owner to be more effective calm, using muzzle, it helps the owner to have more effective administration, and keep exhilaration right down to a practicable aspect. maximum folk, or maybe canines proprietors, quite don't understand what it takes to cope with a canines psychologically, and assume the canines is "undesirable information". In those circumstances, you do not might want to "pass round" or keep a tremendous distance between you, and the canines, yet pass by, and do not look on the canines, do not contact, and no eye contact, and merely stay calm, and pass ahead. this way you aren't any probability. yet even as maximum see a muzzle on a pit bull, it creates worry from human beings, and also you may't educate each and each person.

Having a trained dog isn’t the same as having a balanced dog, but if your dog knows a few basic commands, it can be helpful when tackling problem behaviors — existing ones or those that may develop in the future. Learn here https://tr.im/eNoWU

So where do you start with dog obedience training? You could take a class, but it’s not necessary; you can do it yourself. In fact, with the right attitude, it can be fun for both you and your dog!
Step 1 : Sit
This is one of the easiest dog obedience commands to teach, so it’s a good one to start with.
• Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose.
• Move your hand up, allowing his head to follow the treat and causing his bottom to lower.
• Once he’s in sitting position, say “Sit,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat this sequence a few times every day until your dog has it mastered. Then ask your dog to sit before mealtime, when leaving for walks, and during other situations where you’d like him calm and seated.
Step 2 : Come
This command can help keep a dog out of trouble, bringing him back to you if you lose grip on the leash or accidentally leave the front door open.
• Put a leash and collar on your dog.
• Go down to his level and say, “Come,” while gently pulling on the leash.
• When he gets to you, reward him with affection and a treat.
Once he’s mastered it with the leash, remove it — and practice the command in a safe, enclosed area.
Step 3 : Down
This can be one of the more difficult commands in dog obedience training. Why? Because the position is a submissive posture. You can help by keeping training positive and relaxed, particularly with fearful or anxious dogs.
• Find a particularly good smelling treat, and hold it in your closed fist.
• Hold your hand up to your dog’s snout. When he sniffs it, move your hand to the floor, so he follows.
• Then slide your hand along the ground in front of him to encourage his body to follow his head.
• Once he’s in the down position, say “Down,” give him the treat, and share affection.
Repeat it every day. If your dog tries to sit up or lunges toward your hand, say “No” and take your hand away. Don’t push him into a down position, and encourage every step your dog takes toward the right position. After all, he’s working hard to figure it out!

This is a toughy. Hes scared and in a place he has never been before. If you have a way of keeping him in one area it would be best. now everytime you talk to him, go to take him for a walk, or anything, when you go away, or even start a sweeper, or open and slam a cabinet door give him a treat first and tell him it will be okay. he is just scared and thinks he has been abandoned. Just keep him in the small area with lots of treats and praise. I wish you good luck.

Cause you encouraged him and gave him power by yelling.. He doesn't like you, and he wants to go home... NOW...He isn't going to be happy til you take him home.. Why don't you try hanging out with him, be his friend, make him feel comfortable.. Get him out some toys, and play with him.

Edit: How the heck is a JRT going to kill anyone??

i would call his owners. it was nice of you to sit for him but he obviously isn't taking being away from home well. they really should come and get him or arrange for someone else to sit for him. i know if my dog reacted like that, i would be devestated and get him asap. there is no reason for you to put yourself in a position where you could get hurt.
