You need to first consult your general practitioner who will refer you to a therapist. This, as I am sure you know is not healthy. realize you are not alone but this is dangerous. There is an underlying cause in play here and this is what you need to address with the help of a therapist. Please consult someone ASAP - before the underlying cause begins to gain strength and other problem surface.

If you're not suffering from depression--which I,
myself, battled for over two years--then you are
a "sado-masochist."
Either way--and depression was my first thought--
you could use some help. I'd suggest you let your
fingers do some walking, (once the blood has
stopped dripping from them), through your local
Yellow Pages. Find a psychologist to see on a
regular basis.
And avoid a psychiatrist. A psychiatrist is qualified
to prescribe a medication. But that's the virtual
limit of their expertise.
What you need is a PhD., because he can tell you
why you've begun to act this way. If you are not
suicidal, then there must be some other hidden
motive. He can help you discover whatever that
might be.

Good luck!

Your only doing a temporary solution to a problem that is beyond what "cutting" can help. I know from experience that "cutting" is NOT good for you. You need to go to a doctor or someone who can handle this type of situation, to help you understand what is going on. Remember getting help is like vitamins for your body. Remember your not alone there are people who do care enough to listen & help you thru your problems. I wish you much success in beating this problem ;)

Borderline Personality disorder.
What pain are you attempting to release?
You need help. Find a healthier way to release like exercise & activities.
I worked 10 years on a psych ward as a nurse so I know what I'm talking about.

A doctor would attempt to get to the root of the problem and perhaps suggest medication to help prevent you from doing this.
