if i download limewire basic p2p on my laptop will it mess up my internet connection?

It shouldn't, unless you download a virus through limewire. Just don't download something significanly bigger, or significantly smaller than the other results.

Hmm...Not sure what you mean by a router on your desktop. But regardless, Limewire should not mess up you Internet connection.
