Lisinopril is an ACE (angiotensin converting enzyme) inhibitor. It has 3 main uses, and FDA, approvals. It is used to treat hypertension, high blood pressure. It is used in combination with other medications to treat congestive heart failure, build up of fluid in the lungs and extremities, due to dysfunction of the myocardium, heart muscle. It is used to slow down, or even stop, the progression of kidney disease in diabetes. There are quite a few ACE inhibitors available, captopril was the first, then lisinopril and enalapril, then a few more after that. They pretty much all have the same mechanism of action and uses and approvals. The most common side effects of all ACE inhibitors are chronic cough and angioedema, fluid build-up in the soft tissues. ACE inhibitors should not be used in patients with renal artery stenosis, arteries that supply blood to the kidneys that are too small or "tight". By blocking ACE, these drugs cause the arteries of the body to dilate, open up, and this lowers blood pressure quite nicely. They are excellent drugs, but have been shown to be less effective in lowering blood pressure in black patients than in whites. Hope this helps.

Hello,
My friend Rose was about 50 when she first came upon a new natural kidney healing program. Her life had been devastated, literally ruined with stage 4 kidney disease. She had no life, no job because she was too sick to work, not enough energy to see her friends and sat around most of the time watching TV. She basically was waiting around for kidney failure and to start dialysis. She is much better now. She followed a natural method with great results. Cheers.

It is used to treat high blood pressure. It lowers blood pressure by blocking the formation of a substance in the kidneys called ace--angiotensin converting enzyme. ACE constricts blood vessels. Lisinopril blocks ACE.
